    Apart from maps, nothing beats good old fashioned directions given by someone who's actually been to the place. Maps don't indicate one-way streets, road constructions and sometimes, streets clogged by ambulant vendors or double-parked vehicles.

    A certain university department chairman said that to me years ago. He termed it an "expert system". The limitation is a need for an artificial intelligence to sort through the information into some useful data for a person to access in a non-linear way.

    The frequency that traffic rules and road status are changing in our country (one-way street today, two-way street tomorrow; open street today, barangay basketball hall tomorrow, U-turn allowed today, No U-turn tomorrow), it helps a lot to engage the experience of the (local) experts, for free....
