255/55 R18 is the best combo..you can even install 285/55 R18 size and it will still fit! Ford manages to design a big wheel well for the Compact SUV.

there u could research the biggest possible tires you could mount for your type of vehicle. At least they've done it and its guaranteed to fit with no rubbing.http://www.tirerack.com/
i've seen some 225 / 50 R17 on CRV's and it looks wicked!
