got 20 inch in my FORT... if SAFETY is your concern, no users had villified their oversized(?) rims..

you will hear more of its disadvantages from rumormongers who have no personal experience from this size...

the only drawback IMHO is the rigidity of the ride which can be compensated by having the proper shock absorber in your ride...

you'd probably have to go with 30-35 series tires. i agree with the ride quality degradation comment. you'd also have to be extra alert roving the streets of the metro

I hope your BMW's suspension is up to the task. 19 inch rims and matching tires will let you feel every single crack and whatever imperfections the road has.

Just set aside a budget for rim dent repair. :D

match it up with tires that have rim bumper protection and you should be just fine.

When i got "BELLE" (name of my new 02' 316i BMW) it already had a miledge of 48,000. I pressume the shock absorbers are still stock. Would you suggest i change the shock absorbers? if so, with what sir? thanks

These are nice sticky tires, kinda pricey... but heck you already spend on your rims might as well pair it with good tires.

You might want to consider changing to aftermarket springs and shocks.

if you install 30 or 35 series tires...you will be one with the road..as in you will feel everything you drive through

i know coz my 40 series tires make me feel the same thing.

mga six years ago nung kumuha yung classmate ko ng 316 sa prestige, nang dinala nya yung mags/tires(19 or 18, i think), prestige demand that they change the suspension or or warranty will be void. ayun napagastos pa tuloy ng malaki.
p.s. gusto pa ng prestige german brand yung tires.amp talaga oh.

BTT, i think safe naman yan. just know your/its limitations.hth

AFAIK, the stock suspension of the E46 wasn't designed for wheels bigger than 17's, so like what the others have said, consider changing the shocks and springs.

The OEM sports suspension is both good and bad(?) I have it on my E46 with 18's. A bit too firm for passengers, but not for me. When the rear springs broke (they seem to have that tendency), I had it replaced with an Eibach Pro Kit and I'm quite happy with it. They seem to be a bit on the softer side. No complaints with the shocks, though.

nitto tires are great. that's what i have with my 20's now

though i object what is just said about the ride. in my camry i just installed espelir lowering kit.. the ride is smooth.. close to stock..

though i had problems with the dents though... hehehehehe :D

but you will get used to it as time goes by.. you'll know where the potholes are even you keep you eyes shut. haha!

    btw,
what rims are you getting? i could help you out with discounts at wheel gallery if you want.. they are the distributor ok nitto tires if i remember right

I'm an ex-user of big rims, on both cars and SUVs... so this is from personal experience. 19's on a car are quite different from 20's on an SUV. With an SUV, you still have a big cushion of rubber protecting the wheels from the road.

The only disadvantage for an SUV with wheels that big are the increase of unsprung weight (not a big deal... stock SUV tires are pretty heavy already), increased tendency to "tramline" and an increased susceptibility to aquaplaning (but this is relative... many ultra-wide "stock" off-road tires already suffer from this). We only traded in the wheels for reasons of ride comfort... of which the vehicle in question had little, anyway... and the fact that such nice wheels were a shame to waste on a vehicle that had to go off-road every once in a while.

For your E46, you'll be riding on some ultra-thin gums to fit those 19" wheels, a 30-series, most likely, to keep diameter close to stock... 35 only if it can fit (35 comes out taller than stock).

Aside from the sluggishness you'll get from the big rims, you'll have to be extra careful of potholes. Anything deeper than 3 inches will be enough to "kiss" the rims if they're wide enough, sharp enough and sudden enough. EDSA is a great place to bend rims... we've done it there on even 40-45 series tires. My cousin spent a humongous amount on fancy rims from the US, which would only fit his car with 35 series tires... he spent most of his time driving at a flat 60 km/h on the highway to preserve them...

If you don't mind staying slow, it's not unfeasible to keep such rims... anyway, the only danger areas near you would be EDSA-Makati underpass and the Sergio Osmena Highway extension (between EDSA and Quirino Ave).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
