BAGUIO CITY -- The mercury in Baguio City dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius, the coldest temperature recorded since January 1986, and just more than a degree higher than the coldest day experienced here in 1961.
Efren Aquino, weather observer of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) here, said the temperature recorded on Thursday was the fifth coldest temperature Baguio has experienced since the coldest day here on January 18, 1961, (6.3 degrees Celsius).
Aquino said the other coldest days here were February 28, 1963, at 6.7 degrees; January 8, 1986, 6.8 degrees; January 9, 1971, 7.1 degrees; and December 13, 1991, 7.6 degrees.
Aquino said they expect temperatures to remain chilly until February due to the cold front brought about by the northeast monsoon.
