In the US, the Soul is priced at $15,000 which is roughly around PhP750,000. I anticipated that it would be priced above PhP1M due to our $#!tty system. It's really not Kia's fault that the Soul is priced that high. Actually, all cars in the Philippines are steeply priced due to taxes; especially those that are imported as whole cars as opposed to those assembled here. See what happened to the local Prius? So blame the Bureau of Customs and the BIR! And Ralph Recto! Hehehe...
My cousins in the US laughed at me when I told them that Corollas here cost PhP900,000.
I saw the top of the line Kia Soul EX A/T at Greenhills.
It looks nice, but upon closer inspection you will notice some "cheap" details like the seems/welds on the sharp corners of the door window frames...
...they should have painted the inside of the door window frames black to make the seems/welds less obvious.
The doors also felt dissapointingly light and hollow for a P1.32M vehicle. (It obviously wasn't meant to cost that much)
PS: With the rear seats in place, the cargo area looked quite small, not as impressive as the Jazz considering that the Soul is a larger vehicle.

The Coolbear is a good alternative..Ganda rin nun kahit copycat yung car nayan.
I saw a green one last week at EDSA. very very cute.
but at 1.2 million pesos, there's a looney of other cars I'd rather have.
I wonder kung ilalabas dito yung kia forte koup. ang ganda nung mags nun
I saw a commercial ad of it in ch.9 and at first I didn't think that it was a car ad until I saw the logo.....
enway, as expected its ridiculously priced AGAIN.....![]()
if they brought the 1.6 engine here in LX form, it would probably sell at the 850-950k price range...
im wondering why CAC didnt do this in the first place... i didnt see the word "niche" coming our from their press releases (please correct me if im wrong) so i presume this will be an expensive mainstay offering.
may the curb weight of the 1.6 is way too much compared to a regular 1.6 liter sedan like the Mazda3 or the Altis.
if it would be the 1.6 that is being used at the Hyundai i30, that would have been ok sana... haiz!
BUT... another reason coming into mind is probably because HARI does not want the Soul to conflict with the i30 and the Tucson?
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Probably...the pricing's kinda weird, because Kia designed the Soul for the youth market [abroad, at least]. But only old folks would buy something priced at 1.3M.
I'm not talking about safety, i'm talking about the quality of the details/finish that match the high price.
You don't want to see ugly seems/welds and bare body colored window frames inside a P1.32M car and maybe a little extra insulation on the doors would be welcome so they don't sound hollow.
The Kia Soul is a good car, but at P1.17M - P1.32M its just too overpriced for what you get.
I think the 2.0 liter Kia Soul should at least be in the P950K - P1.1M range.
Its Trendy, but not that pratical, it even has less cargo room than the new Jazz.
These Korean cars are really getting expensive.
Even the price of Kia's little Picanto has gone up by almost P200K in the span of 4 years!
The Picanto now costs P595K for the M/T and P645K for the A/T.
True, thats probably the reason why other car companies don't sell their trendy (youth market) cars here, because they would just be too expensive for their target market.

kelan kaya ilalabas ang Kia Forte? sedan ba or yung coupe ang dadalhin dito? sana within this year na or baka sa 2010 na.
sana lang the price is right pero parang malabo na yata yan mangyari. estimate ko is from 900K to 1.2M ang price nito for a 1.6L Kia Forte sedan at siguro nasa 1.6M to 1.9M na yung coupe.
sorry, OT na. hehe![]()
not surprised at all that the soul is overpriced. all Kia vehicles in RP are overpriced, thanks to CAC.
sayang ganda ng kotse na to. the right price should be 850-925K only. I think CAC should re-think their business strategy. looks like the carens will be the last Kia vehicle we will ever own. If I have the money, I would put it on a subaru or a montero. 1.3M?!?!! what is CAC thinking?
I don't think the Koup will cost that much, this is no Genesis Coupe.
The Koup is basically just a 2-door variant of the FWD Forte sedan.
PS: I heard that the 210hp turbocharged Genesis Coupe 2.0T can be ordered now (by order basis?).
The base Genesis Coupe 2.0T M/T starts at P1.398M! ...thats something the guys at Columbian Autocar Corporation should consider. Their FWD Koup (a 2-door Forte) is no match for the RWD turbocharged Genesis Coupe, so CAC better price the Koup right.

Saw one for the first time kanina dito sa may C3 going to Kalookan. Unfortunately walang picture kasi gumagalaw ng mabilis.
