Is the 1.6 exactly the same as the Elantra's, gear ratios included?

Kia Soul 2012 na ang ginagamit ko ngayon. Medyo disappointed ako sa FC, di lumalampas ng 7.5kms/liter ang consumption ko. Petron XCS gamit ko. City driving.

What is your SOUL's engine? 1.6 or 2.0?

I'm getting the 2012 Kia Soul today. Sana confirmed ang releasing this afternoon. I hope I would not have any problem with it.

Good for you. Your 1st 1000 kms should net you around 7km/l to start for city driving.

    Currently using a new 2012 1.6 A/T with the Dual-CVVT engine.

Mileage for the first 1000 kms (a little over 1000 km to be exact):

    • 14.07 liters * 101 km (7.18 km/l) - pure city driving in Metro Manila - slow; "break-in speed"
    • 22.93 liters * 213 km (9.29 km/l) - city and highway driving (to and from Sta. Rosa, Laguna)
    • 29.09 liters * 271.5 km (9.33 km/l) - driving to Baguio (high-speed and overtaking) - NLEX, SCTEX, McArthur Hiway and Kennon
    • 37.03 liters * 329.4 km (8.90 km/l) - in and around Baguio and driving home to Manila (hills and slower pace going home, did not use Kennon as it was raining hard)
    • 16.08 liters * 99.6 km (6.19 km/l) - pure city driving in Metro Manila - slow; "break-in speed"

    Other details:

    • Fuel: 97 RON unleaded (Sea Oil Xtreme 97) and Petron Blaze 100
    • Tire pressure at 33 psi for all 4 tires
    • Active Eco mode always on
    • A/C always on
    • 3 passengers, driver included, on the Baguio and Laguna road trips, with luggage
    • Rain and heat encountered
    • Traffic encountered in city driving and in Baguio (idling)
    • "Break-in speed" connotes not using the gas too much and not accelerating quickly
    • Mileage computed manually and not via trip computer

Average for the first 1000km is 8.66 km/l (which is 20.37 mpg).

First PMS was recently completed. Hopefully, mileage numbers will improve a lot more.

sama ng FC ng 1.6 A/T ah, 9.33 km / l for baguio. pero tingin ko hindi na mag-improve yan coz 6km/liter lang talaga ang claims kahit san website eh.

Medyo malakas sa gas ah. Despite being an MPV, it shouldn't really consume much more gas than the Elantra 1.6GL which it shares its engine and transmission with, since 50kg lang ang difference nila (1228 kg vs 1274 kg).

    perhaps because of aerodynamic profile.

On the kia soul forums, some users get a lot better mpg, but only after 5000 miles and using fully synthetic oil.

I do have a lead foot.

FC should improve after the next PMS.

Currently just passed 2k mileage. On one full tank on 50/50 combined city-highway driving, the trip computer shows me 9.43 km/L while manual computation gives me 9.68 km/L.

City driving is mostly in the city of Manila and rush hour EDSA, while highway driving is mostly NLEX.

Tire pressure at 36 PSI on all tires and using 97 RON fuel.

when i step inside the car, sabi ko.. WOW.... ang laki...parang ang sarap i-drive..kaya lang when i asked how many airbags does it have.. sabi ng SA 1 lang...aw....

ok na sana ako sa engine bay eh,. tapos sabi pa ng SA eh isasama na daw niya yung foglights...
para sakin kasi very important ang passenger side airbag ngayon eh... it feels safer...

Just pointing out that the primary crash safety devices are the seat belts.

The air bags are just supplementary safety devices that have to work with the seat belts. If the seatbelts do their job, you will not need the passenger side airbag. On the driver side, since the steering wheel is much closer to you, an airbag will help prevent injury to you by cushioning your head from hitting the steering wheel.

It is a fun car to drive in either the 1.6L or 2.0L variant. The SOUL is very responsive in handling. The cheaper 1.6L might have a smaller engine, but you will not feel any lack of power when driving this car in city or highway speeds.

I agree. The new 1.6 DCVVT engine with the 6-speed tranny is fun to drive. Quite zippy, actually. The suspension seems to be tuned tighter than I expected. It does help with cornering although you feel the ruts on the road more.

Also, remember to try driving without the Eco mode on to fully appreciate the engine.
