Ive been to Signet here in Mandaluyong where I reserved my unit. Rims will only be 13" and it will cost P320th instead of P330th like the current batch. The current model is Picanto Lx- color keyed everything above, power steering, manual door locks and windows, rear defogger, catalytic converter, cup holders, 2-speaker stereo. Di ko pa na test drive, but for the price, and especially good looks mahirap ayawan, hehehe. Because it was a Kia, I have no high expectations kaya ng makita ko, medyo nagulat ako sa quality at ganda ng tindig.
You have to see in person to believe. High tech 1.1Liter EFI engine, very silent (at least sa showroom.) Very cool aircon- what to expect, bago eh. Spacious interior (surprise!) paneling is plastic- I hope not cheap! Two- tone seat fabrics. Back seat can be folded flat on the floor to accomodate bigger luggages. Seat belts on front and rear seats. Very nice head lamps and rear lamps!
Low profile tires with 14 inch, black steel rims. Meron siyang alloy look-alike rim covers kaya when viewed at 6 meters parang naka-mags na rin.
I choose this kasi budget ko hanggang second hand car lang. When I see this car, the choice was very easy! Brand new, 3-years or 110,000kms warranty. Peace of mind in case of factory defects! That's right. 110,000kms NOT 100,000kms like Vios or City. I don't know why Picanto has higher warranty coverage.
Ang alam ko this Kia model has Europe as its testing ground where it received very high marks. For what its worth, of all Kia cars, only the Picanto has it's own Flash-enabled website in 14 different languages, not including the Asian Picanto websites (Kia Morning in Korean, and Kia Eurostar in Taiwanese and Hong Kong.)
Since wala pang track record ang Picanto sa Pilipinas who can say how well it will perform in our conditions? But if European reviews are any indication, then many a budget conscious car buyer would be very pleased to own a good-looking, gas-pinching, tall-bodied supermini called Kia Picanto.
Here are the links to those European reviews of Kia Picanto and a link from our own Business World Online/Motorista.com:
I asked the dealer how come there was still no Philippine ads for the Picanto. The initial batch were probably shipped to test the Philippine market reaction. I'm getting a red one.
As for customer satisfaction on after sales service, I have no idea. For 330th sa tingin ko sulit na sulit and Picanto. See for yourself baka magustohan nyo rin.
My red Picanto has just left the dealer's office and on the way now to mine=) I paid it in full this morning and Signet Mandaluyong, through Miss Carrie, was still able to pull out a new unit from their plant, installed the stereo and tint and will make a delivery all in one day! How's that for fast service? I will get back to you as soon as I have calmed down from all the excitement, hehehe=)
galing ako signet (lapit sa boni mrt) kahapon and bilib ako sa picanto. nothing more to say, no doubt bibili ako but i'm willing to wait for the euro version and take the risk of paying a higher price just in case magtaas ng price yung kia.
I got my red Picanto last Monday evening, delivered by salespeople of Signet Mandaluyong. The following is NOT an advertisement. Just my humble contrbution to the curious posters at Tsikot.com. I am not affiliated with Kia or any of it's distributors. Here are my first impressions as a new Picanto owner.
1. Very silent engine. It is quite easy to forget to upshift if you have been used to engine noise as a sign when to upshift. It took a while for me to get used to looking at the tachometer as a guide between shifting.
2. Comfortable enough. It has plenty of drawers and three cup holders. My daughter feel asleep quickly at the back seat after she finished her beverage. Cool, quite air con.
3. Excellent engine response. Just avoid upshifting (from 1st to 2nd gear for instance) while the engine rpm is still low as the car will struggle to pick up speed when you attempt to floor the gas. But the car responds quickly if you step gently on the gas pedal.
4. I noticed that I get very good and solid engine response when I upshift between 2000-2500rpm. Maximum torque is pegged at 3500rpm- best left to really demanding situations, like overtaking.
5. I discovered I can do 100-110kph at North Diversion Road and the car just want to speed up more. I content myself at 80kph and merrily hum along.
6. The car manual is very strict on NOT racing and redlining the engine. No problem here.
7. I have not yet tested the gas mileage. Best mileage advertised was 20kms per liter. Let's see.
8. At the slightest right foot pressure, the brakes engage. Typical of new cars, I guess.
9. Smooth shifting.
10. Built-in stereo is just ok. Programmable FM/AM and tape.
11. Rear seats can be folded flat on the floor- provided, there is enough space. I my case, since i need to slide back the driver's seat in a comfortable position, the driver's seat gets in the way of the folded rear seats do that they cannot be totally folded flat.
12. Power steering is like a dream. Very nice!
13. Though I stand at 5'10", I cannot see the hood of the car when seated at the driver's seat. One more thing to get used to.
14. My only gripes are the absence of mud guards and a dial type temperature gauge. Instead of a dial type temperature gauge, you get blue and red temp indicators. Blue means engine is cold and red, too hot. While driving, neither should be lighted up, except blue which remained ON for a few minutes just after starting. It would be more useful if it were just a dial type!
15. Perhaps as a consolation, the whole metering cluster is well designed and gives a nice glow at night. Very visible without getting obtrusive.
16. Intermittent wiper has speed control. I like that.
17. Tinting job (free) is only acceptable. I saw a couple of bubbles at the windshiled.
18. Floor mat (free also) is only good for delivering the car to the customer. Really. Good thing I had a new set of 3M Nomad Car Mat waiting, hehehe. Yes, the 3M 5-piece set is a perfect fit.
19. Free seat cover (who knows the quality of these free items) to follow.
The Kia Picanto 1.1LX is not for the status seekers- the high end Picanto EX model would be, hahaha, just kidding! I was told higher and lower end models would be delivered next month. All power and automatic, perhaps all the accessories of the Euro version. More choices, much better.
But for the amount of investment, I am satisfied and happy with my choice. This is a practical and good looking car, and I hope as reliable as Kia said it would be. I intend to follow the recommended casa maintenance schedule. I am looking at the warranty booklet saying 3 years, 110,000kms whichever comes first.
Oh, and by the way, the Kia Picanto is Euro II compliant. I saw two boxes of what I suspect to be a catalytic converter and an emmission filter in addition to the muffler along the length of the exhaust pipe. I think this means no problems with pollution/emmission tests at the LTO. Whatever Kia's reputation was before, Kia Picanto is good news to me.
Best regards, folks, and Have a Safe and Enjoyable Motoring whatever your chosen car is!

Thanks for all the compliments.
I think if you buy it at a low cost, then the resell value would also be lower. As far as parts and maintenance is concerned... hmmm.. I have no occassion yet to have the car serviced. First scheduled maintenance is 5,000km and subsequently every 5,000km hence. I'll just let the casa take care of it's parts.
