    Hello Kia Brothers!

Tulong lang po. My van does not want to start. Nakakapagtaka ang problem nya po talaga. Napapa-start namin ang van but if we travel a short distance, ayaw nya ng magstart. Click lang ang maririnig ninyo. But my wife uses it to go to work at taguig and back to quezon city without any incident. It's been 3 months now and ongoing. Below is the list of chronological events:

    1. When we 1st encountered the problem, wheelers was able to start it by jump starting it. So the next day I was able to start it and brought it to the battery store where i got my battery and had my battery tested. They tested it to be ok so they suggested to have my starter check.

    2. I had had my starter checked and the tech replaced the carbon brushes and cleaned the rotor. We were able to use the van without any problems but after 2 weeks it happened again. Again, after wheelers assisted us by jump starting the van, I was able to start it the next day and brought it back to that battery store as per suggestion from the wheelers specialist. The battery tech tested the battery again and certified it to be ok and suggested its a starter problem again. We had to jump start it the battery store to start it. I was convinced that it probably was a starter problem.

    3. I brought it to an electrician but this time I decided to replace the starter. I got a surplus starter installed and it started without any problems but after just a week, it happened again. Ayaw na naman nyang magstart kapag naibyahe sya ng maikling distance. Nakakapagtaka talaga.

Im thinking of replacing the battery this time but i maybe wasting money kasi di ko sure kung ung battery nga ang problem. Pepede kaya ang alternator? Nalilito talaga ako sa problem nya.

Any advice is greatly appeciated. Thank you in advance.

    sir,

Try ninyo pacheck ang alternator ninyo kasi lagi kayo nadischarge, sama ninyo na ang mga grounding. then next try nyo rin magpacheck ng glow plugs and fuse nya yung square 60 amps ata yun! hope this will help you!

salamat, jon2tan, for the quick reply.

in my understanding yung glow plugs ay sa pagstart lang yung gagana. kelangan kasi maiinit yung oil or diesel bago

    my guesses:
    1. your wiring is partially burned, and is offering strong resistance. have it checked. look for melted plastic insulation. if so, have the entire wiring harness replaced with a local replacement with larger wire size.
    2. your ignition switch (yung susian) is defective: it works when cold, and not work when hot; or is intermittent.
    3. your glow plugs may not be a problem, as they are needed only when starting a cold engine, and they have nothing to do with diminished redondo. if you wish, you can have them checked at a diesel specialist, not an ordinary mekaniko or talyer.
    4. have your your starter relay checked. (not the big one with the starter, but the small one that looks like a 1-inch cube)
    5. how's your linear fuse (it looks like wiring but is actually a fuse). just in case..
    6. alternator charging ok?
    7. if you have loose compression, it may also amplify any of the above.
    8. and finally, how's your computer? (i'd already forgotten if it had one or not.)
btw, when you say jump start, you mean another battery is attached? or you mean, the van is pushed to start it?
    i had a besta for 9 years..

thanks for the reply po. yan mga wiring nga ang papatingnan ko sa electrician na nagpalit ng stater ko this weekend. iniisip ko din na baka may naglu-loose contact. ung ignition switch ko naman e bagong palit lang un last 2009 pero patingnan ko nalang din. ung glow plugs e baka d ko muna kakalikutin. re sa starter relay e un ang unang nilagay ng electrician the very 1st time i encountered the problem kasi wala nga daw relay ung besta ko. it didnt work so hindi relay un. ung fusible links na tinutukoy mo e pinalitan ko na din since alam kong nasusunog pagkatagalan un na pedeng magcause sa di pagstart. ganon pa din. ipapacheckup ko din ang alternator ko pero di naman nadidischarge ang battery since the morning the next day e napapastart naman sya ng isis ko at nagagamit nga. ginagamit nya kasi going to work everyday from qc to mckinley and so far napapastart naman nya pag pauwi din sya. lumilitaw ang prob napansin namain kung maikli lang ang distance na tinatravel like siguro mga less than 15mins travel time then ayaw nya ng magstart pag napatay na sya. well, i tried both jumpstarting it using an extra battery and by tulak/kadyot. sometimes it will start with the battery jumpstart and sometimes with the push-start method but it also did not work using both methods like when my van did not start the last time. i had someone from my battery dealer to come ang jumpstart it using a battery pero di nagwork. after he left, i just tried to start it again by turning the key and it work! nakakaloko talaga ang sakit nya! you mentioned about the computer. does the kia besta have one?

Have experienced that too in my 13 year old Besta. It was the electrical wiring to the starter solenoid switch. The shop just cleaned it and its ok.

take the van to a trained auto electrician and have a cranking current reading. if the current is too low or has voltage drop, there is a high resistance in the wiring. any car will have the same symptoms just like the Killed In Action

I experience same problem with my 2.2 kia van. I've gone through all those glow plug, battery, starter and alternator checks and replacement however nothing solve the problem. It turned out that when the engine it hot the circuit inside the injection pump was the culprit. No current in the injection pump when the engine is hot since the injection pump need this for operation particularly during starting. I had the injection pump replaced and it solve the problem. The electrical connection might be poor inside the injection pump when heated causing malfunction thus resulting to hard starting.

thanks for the replies, mga tsikoteers!

what i recently did is purchased a new battery. it started right away with the new battery but again magkatapos kong ibyahe sa shopwise e di na naman sya magstart. what i did is replaced all the fuses in the fuse box under the dash and surprise i was able to start it and get it back home. i am really just thinking of bringing it to a kia service center and see what they can diagnose.

genar, how much is the ignition pump? where did you had it replaced? sa kia casa ba o repair center lang?
