Hello again guys, here i am again with my questions about vehicles. Cencia na kaci newbie ako sa mga cars. gusto ko lang sana humingi ng advices about the pros and cons uli of an old Corolla with a 4K engine as against a 1994 Kia pride. My son would be traveling to San Miguel Bulacan from manila once a week and i really don't know which vehicle can take the rigors of a long trip from time to time. Hope some of you guys can shed some light on this naman.I'm planning to buy a Car kaci for my 19yr old son with my current budget of 75K lang( i am just an ordinary working man). Thanx to all of you in advance, more power to all the Tsikoteers !!

Pareho namang puwede yan as long as well maintained. You wouldn't want either car to break down on a deserted highway, or worse, at NLEX.

If you're talking about the Corolla with 4K I'm assuming that's the 80-83 model. Medyo luma na yan. Sana naalagaan ang kaha otherwise papagawa mo pa yan. Usual rust spots near the C pillars, the roof near the doors where water collects, and the floors. Yung makina baka mga 200TKm na ang natakbo niyan. Sana'y na overhaul na kahit once. There are probably some shops who can do an engine swap to the newer 4As, but mated with an RWD tranny.

As with any old car, there will be repairs to bring it to top condition, but once it's there, maintenance na lang. Lahat ng mechanical - brakes, suspension, etc, etc, need to be checked and fixed as necessary. Seats may need to be reconditioned, gauge cluster lights replaced, carpet cleaning or replacement, dashboard cleaning. Then you will have a nice old school RWD car. May trunk ka pa.

Can't comment on the Kia. Though from the looks of it, maliit ang trunk space compared to the Corolla. But it's newer...

if i were you, including-the-newbie-to-cars thing, i'd bring along a trusted mechanic to compare both cars. may mga relatively bago pero laspag, may mga luma pero alaga naman.

pero at 75K budget, merong mga newer that 1994 yata sa classifieds natin at that price range, and i'd definitely consider those than the 80-83 models. basta ba hindi ex-taxi.

i'll go with the kia, it's newer so parts will be more available... plus mas malakas aircon ng kia pride compared to the old corolla.

body parts for the old corolla will be harder to source.

i'd go with kia, newer. basta ayos ang kundisyon. I think sa budget mo makakahuha ka na ng ok na unit. dag dag ka lang ng konti for additional repairs..

i would still prefer a kia pride in good condition. okay naman ang kia e, as long as maintained properly.

i know this may be an unsolicited advise... why not borrow a little more and get something like this? i just saw it in a selling board sa GT. actually mura na yang price for a good conditioned car di ba? kasi sa mabibili mo with 75k, baka may ipaayos ka pa. anyways, good luck po sa hunting ng new car nyo. :D
