hi guys, wat are your comments in kia pregio? how about driving experience?

well i just want to share that i bought 1998 Kia pregio GS and its been 10yrs na sa akin and i havent experience major problem. We chose this van because its very spacious, good interior, engine is somewhat powerful din. i drove it already in Kennon for 4x with 10passengers.

im not a fan of korean cars but it seems that they improving na din like the new CRDI engine but anyway i read a lot of thread about KIa pregio na main problem is overheating and aircon. I havent experience this in my van. overheating due to poor cooling system pero it can be upgraded.

if you have problem in kia pregio i can help you. My father's friends also drive kia pregio and there are lot of this in sta lucia were they used it as PUV and so far good inputs were i heard.

+1 on the aircon and overheating issue, although overheating will be a problem only when you make it climb up Marcos Highway going to Baguio with a full load of people and cargo. Ours needed a 5-minute break, but that's it---after the rest it made the climb to Baguio without further incident.

The problematic aircon can be a headache though.

Mechanically speaking, I have absolutely nothing to complain about on the Pregio. It's an old diesel with no turbo, so it's underpowered compared to the fancy common-rail units of today, but drivetrain-wise our 1998 Pregio GS A/T never, ever let us down.

With proper maintenance, this van will serve you well for as long as you accept the quirks of diesels. We sold ours to a fellow village resident. Now and then I still see it in very good shape, puttering along its merry way.

Anyway my pregio doesnt experienced overheating, one factor is i changed the radiator from 1 row to 3rows (evercool ang brand). during uphill with 10passengers in Kennon road the temp gauge is 1/4 only.

Nope, our Pregio was all stock. Seems like it shares the same radiator woes of the Nissan Vanette of yore, where an upgraded radiator will do wonders.

For most of its life with us it never went anywhere near the overheating zone though...usually city/highway driving

Yup. We had the last edition of the Vanette. Absolutely no power, but no overheating. They changed the size of the radiator and fans on that one. Many older Vanette owners upgraded theirs and it cured the problem.

I don't own a Pregio, but my cousin does. I love it. Great ride, decent power, good driving position. All-in-all, a very good van for mixed family/commercial use.

Maybe you don't have thermostat Sir Esnie installed in your engine anymore that is why you only get a reading of ¼% temp in your control panel gauge. Due to my frequent complain at signet of the pregio always overheating in traffic, my thermostat was removed by the mechanic. Take note: Pregio'99 was just newly purchased from them at that time. It took years before I finally talked to the owner of Goodgear by phone and sales talked me to change the radiator into 3 rows evercool. But still it give me a lot of burden after replacing because the sides of the evercool radiator doesn't have any support so it ballooned in shape and leaks of hot water goes out from the weak spot before bursting. Meaning it didn’t really give remedy to the problem I ever had. Since it’s an automatic, I need to heat up the engine first for 10 to 15 minutes before I drive. Or else it won’t change the gear into high speed.[SIZE=3] [/SIZE]From the negative terminal of my battery, I have several huge grounded wire connected to different locations of the pregio unit for prevention KUNO on overheating. All 5 original tires got blownout. Engine?three times na syang na overhaul and the transmission have also undergone an overhaul treatment because speed changes suddenly while driving from 80kph down to 60kph. After overhauling the transmission that has cost me a lot: the result was driving uphill on the reverse, hindi NA nya kaya. Nawala ang dating sakit pero nag creat naman ng bagong sakit ang mechanikong gumawa.
Now I have another problem concerning the tachometer gauge which is going up and down especially on the reverse gear mode.
Due to my financial difficulties, mabuti na lang meroon pregio kaysa wala. PagTYAGAan na lang ika nga.
So what I did? I look for the service manual of the pregio and glad to have it. For now I am the only one fixing all the problems of my pregio.
Kapag sa casa kayo magpa PMS or having it rapaired in casa? Sisirain lang nila mga cars nyo. Please have pity to yourselves. Look for the best auto mechanic, upang hindi nila pag praktisan mga kotse nyo.

doesnt mean after overhauling magiging okay na agad ang engine, may break in period pa anyway tapos na ba ang break in period? kung hindi pa tapos ang break in meaning hindi pa lumalapat ang valve seals, springs not yet meet the right height etc. kung tapos naman ang break in period ibalik niya sa nag-overhaul ng engine to diagnose baka may nakalimutan siyang gawin or palitan sa engine.

my pregio doesnt emit white or black smoke, dapat clear at hindi masama sa ilong ang usok.

hi sir, had the same problem and did the calibration and replaced nozzel tips. had to change the cylinder head twice. but it still was belching smoke.

after a while, we decided to replace the piston rings. during the dukot. the mechanic discovered that one of the cylinders was cracked ( due to numerous overheats). got new cylinders and dropped them in. assembled the engine and smoke was gone. to fix the overheating we replaced the radiator with a 3 row evercool one.

nice thing about our engine is that the you don't have to bring the engine block to machine shop. you can just pull out the old cylinder by hand and drop in the new one.

to fix the a/c problem. i replaced the original condenser fan with a larger one. and when my compressor was due for replacement. i replaced it with a surplus denso equivalent. compressor was exactly the same except for the fittings which my a/c guy just used the original ones. thermostat switch was replaced with a mechanical one too.

tanung lang po.. napapacalibrate ba yung fuel gauge..kase yung fuel gauge ko eh parang irregular reading.. ilang litro ang buffer na fuel kapag umilaw na yung indicator? TIA

We have owned a Kia Pregio Signet for nearly 6 years now and the only problem that I have found is the gear stick.We have had to change the gear cable twice because it snapped and also I am not keen on the gear changes anyway.I have driven a few times since I arrived ( I am from England).The second thing is does anyone know the tyre pressures for a Kia Pregio Signet please because when my wifes family bought the van,it didnt come with a users manual and I have been searching the web as well.Salamat Po
