Other people your face. You're referring to me alright.
So what's it to you if I'm favoring the Soul over all the others in your list, which you yourself shot down on more than one occasion. Might be that I did all the research in those other vehicles, too, and found them, like you did, wanting...
For my perceived needs, I really don't appreciate the heft and height of the Innova, which does a wonderful 10 city and 12 on my last Baguio trip, nor does my ailing knee care for the cuteness but low ride height of my perky 1.4 Getz, an 8 city/14 hway pocket rocket. Nor would I want to curse a Montero or Fortuner every day should I go even bigger, due to my physical limitations. The Innova is my upper limit, thank you.
So what does the Soul have that I am really liking at the moment:
- Goldilocks ride height, ingress & egress for my aging knees,
- Its tech toys, upgrades me from what my other two don't have
- It's AUTOMATIC, allows me to rest my worsening left knee
- DIESEL, a vgt at that, which gives me humongous TORQUE, which I crave for.
- Boxy design, reminiscent of my first ride, an owner jeep
- Hatch design, I LOVE hatches! I still have two, btw...
- Did I say it's DIESEL?
- Since I love to joyride around Luzon, this baby gives me what, a potential 900-1,000 KM PER FULL TANK. You can't touch that, even with a new Jazz. It's sister Accent can, but I hate low riders now
- ABS, airbags, 4 wheel disk brakes! ABS primarily, a recent believer
- Did I say Goldilocks ride height? Yes I did..
- CRDI VGT, nope, mentioned that too...
- and finally but most importantly, the COLOR which is approved by the commander-in-chief... and in-your-face ACID GREEN, found nowhere else but in the SOUL. Like in that Youtube link above.
Maybe my endorsement is a bit over the top, but that's what the SOUL stands for, doesn't it?
Which reminds me... Time to refund that 5K reservation for the Jazz... :-)

It counts, but is very subjective. When was buying a car a completely objective affair anyway?
Thing is, the boxy looks of the Soul don't appeal to majority of people. Sure, you might like it, edi bumili ka.
But I wouldn't be surprised if people would dismiss the Soul even if it's a practical car with decent space and an efficient engine, just because it doesn't look good to them.

Now, why won't you just be happy for people who prefers a left field choice? I like Scary Spice, gata in dinuguan, Huey Lewis and peanut butter on hotdog.
What counts is we stay courteous on the road, wave at those who sneer at this boxy thingamajig, and be on our contented, long distance with barely-a-stop journey.
Hip to be Square, 'no? :-)

kanya-kanyang trip kasi. kaya nga "soul" ang name ng kotse because it is intended for a niche market, kinda hip-left field thing. i hated it the first time i saw it but have grown to appreciate its eccentric beauty later such that i always take a second look every time i meet one on the road. it is not for everybody so let the guy who loves it love it. it ain't your pussy so let him be.
basta huwag lang bitek!
The 2010 Genesis Coupe is another example of a car that did not age well.
