Just watch out for the roving yellow patrol cars, you'll see them from a distance and can slow down if needed. Just don't go past 120 and you should be fine.

The Sporty just begs to go faster doesn't it? Yesterday I needed to go from Mabalacat to San Fernando and didn't even notice I had almost gone beyond 100 in just a few seconds. I need to re-train my foot while I'm breaking her in.
Going here to Subic yesterday, I was chatting & enjoying the view. I didn’t even notice I was in 120 already. Always happens here in SCTEX, not too many cars to pace with. There was also is bike who blasted past me, going maybe 180.

Don’t worry too much about the speed, just don’t go beyond 3,000 rpm & vary your speed, slow & fast during the break-in.

Roger that sir Bloo, that's what I recall my Dad saying as well, never go beyond 3000 RPM, change speeds from 80-100KpH once in a while if you're on the highway/expressway and it should be good.

The Clark South to Floridablanca is pretty much a no restriction zone. This is where I give my rides the stretch their legs need. How fast can your nerves handle or your car can do? Hehehe

Floridablanca to Dinalupihan, you should speed with caution but the enforcers would usually place themselves at the sweeping bend before the Dinalupihan exit. Driving back towards Floridablanca, you should be fine on that long straight.

At night though, you can blast it all the way from Dinalupihan to Clark South.

True that Master E. Night time is actually easy to really speed up because there are no patrols and I guess the cameras can't pick up the speeders as well.

Just to be on the safe side, we always do a break at the rest room stop if we do any speeding, that way our ticket won't show how fast we took the road, hehe.

I won't say how fast I've ever gone on the SCTEX, needless to say that at the time, I was driving a friend's European car which had 8 cylinders. But that was just once and I promised the wifey I would never do it again.

The NLEX/SCTEX system is not wise enough to calculate average speed from your point of entry to your point of exit. There were a few times I drove quick enough at night time that I was able to do Clark to Paranaque in an hour and a half, Floridablanca to Paranaque in two hours.

What Euro car? V8 NA or with a turbo? Most Euro cars have an electronic limit of 255 kmh. I am guessing you flogged it to its limits. Hehehe

Took me an hour thirty from Subic to Balintawak but two hours & 30 min from Balintawak to Parañaque. There are now cops stationed under the overpass before Floridablanca. It’s not easy maintaining 100 in SCTEX. Subconciously, I keep pushing & pushing since some of the cars are doing 100 in the slow lanes. Fastest in a stretch was 140, which is effortless with the Sportage. In the NLEX, pacing was easier with cars around doing 100 at most & here, FE is better.
FYI, fuel is P4-5 cheaper in Subic than Manila.

1.5 hrs from SBMA to Balintawak is fast for me, is taking the Mindanao Ave. route not advisable sir Bloo?

The patrol car on SCTEX stops at different areas just so motorists are aware. But I think sometimes they just leave the vehicle there just as a warning because one time I saw the driver locking the pick-up truck and riding off in another vehicle, hehe.

140KpH on the Sporty during the stretch should be a breeze I imagine. I can see myself doing that and more on the Concepcion to Rosales portion on the TPLEX.

I used to pass through there, but the roads are too small, trucks pass through there cause they are banned in EDSA & too many U Turn slots.

Oh I would never do it in areas where we know the cameras and watchers are located bruh, and never when the wifey and the kids are on board.

Ah ok, I always use C-5 kasi when we need to go to my brother's house near San Martin De Porres, but usually on Sundays only so there's less trucks.

Good observation about the U-turns now though, naging pointless yung shortcut.

I finished cleaning the external surfaces of the Sporty so as part of the habit whenever cleaning our cars, to clean the engine bay as well.

I guess it will be a while before I need to clean it. LoL.

How I wish it would stay this clean for the life of the car, impossible I know, just wishful thinking on my part.

What waterless methods do you use to maintain your engine bays?

This Sportage was featured in a Botchie Santos article yesterday in the PDI. It was a spot on review that shows how far this Korean brand has gone. I just don’t agree with his assumption that equates AWD with off road 4wd. These are crossovers, not off roaders & are in the segment of the CX5, CRV, Tucson & others. The suspension leans more on the comfort side & ground clearance is not that high & is more suitable for flat paved or unpaved roads. It is really a comfortable ride. I hope to see more & more of these on the road.

Thanks for sharing the links gents.

Good reading to pass the time while waiting for the opportunity (or any excuse, haha) to drive our Sportys again.

Did you get yours sir Phil? When's our meet and greet, I wonder. Soon I hope.

So we went up to Urdaneta and Dagupena Resto yesterday for the Father's Day treat of the wifey ( though actually, she's been harassing me to go there for the Binagoongang Crispy Pata and Boneless Bangus Steaks, LoL).

I discovered yesterday that I can really get my RPMs down much faster if I use the manual and get to 8th speed as soon as possible.

Here I was doing 100KpH and the Tachometer never goes above 1400 RPM.

Using my on-board Bluetooth OBD scanner, coolant temperature doesn't rise higher than 86 degrees.

Fuel Economy reads 6.8 Liters per hundred kilometers. I hope this gets better as I break her in more. Just 200 KMs left to go.

How was your Father's Day weekend fellow dads?

Note: Wifey took the picture at my request.

Usually, the FE on the cluster would mean the average FE over a full tank & that will include warm ups, short runs, traffic, long, slow urban runs which all contribute to poor FE. A habit of mine when going on long trips is to fill her up to the brim & set everything to 0. During my last trip to Clark from Parañaque it was 17.5 kms/lit & to Subic, it was 16.5 km/lit (both one way. Going Subic has more uphills). Cruising the flat NLEX averages 20. Going back home, the traffic ate up the gains & I ended up with a final 14-15 kms/lit. Actually, your FE is quite good & should improve. The bar gauge should help you.

Nawala po yung air-dam sir Bloo. It looks more like the 2016 version with the 2019 mag wheels.

Supposedly because one would use it in off-road driving hence better front ground clearance, perhaps?
