Nasan na si cyberian?
Thank you for waiting guys!
Here's my report on the 1st PMS and FC troubleshoot:
The Rio5 was checked-in last Wednesday morning and was pulled out last Saturday late afternoon, or a total of 4 working days at the Kia Service Center. For the 1st 1K PMS: Oil was changed including the filters except the air element. Air-con filter cleaned and front suspension rattles was checked but no repair as there was no defect detected. Front suspension still rattles on road gaps such as in bridges though.
As for the FC, the car was tested on a 2-Liter canister, fabricated for fc evaluation purposes by Kia Service Center. The car was taken to the city center and back for a total of 12.7kms of travel. According to the technician who provided me the details of the test, the container was almost empty when the car arrived at the service shop or approx. 1.9L consumed. The FC:
12.7kms/1.9L = 6.68km/L or if the estimated fuel consumed is at 1.8L (Best/Lowest), FC = 7.05km/L
Pics below are taken inside the Kia Service Lounge: (sorry for the poor shot, Sammy Galaxy Note camera sucks)

B. Closed-up shot
C. Filters & Canister assembled together (sorry, pic was corrupted)
D. Technician's notes of the actual fc testing

According to the technician, the ECU was reset along with software patch to fix air-con system load that according to him as informed by Kia Manila, may have contributed to the poor fc.
I am on my 6th Full tank last Sunday and the 5th Full tank yield was (manual computation): 176kms/33.95L Petron XCS = 5.18km/L!
I will report soon on fc improvement after I emptied this 6th full tank of XCS. So far, power has noticeably increased after the check-up and it runs smoother on highway now with improved power on over-takings. Starting on uphill climb is still a problem though as it's so mabagal and so slow that it almost stall. Once momentum is gathered the engine power comes alive. Great!
Hopefully your FC does improve with the ECU reset.
I must say though, Kia's service and attention to your problem is pretty impressive, especially when compared to reports of Accent owners before, who said that HARI simply shrugged off their FC problems as "normal".
Yep, impressive to the extent that they even note down on my service manual the following: 1K PMS, Fuel consumption problem and front suspension rattle! They told me my Rio5 fc is not what they expected and told me also to wait for further notice as Kia Manila is still looking at the problem and solution to improve my fc.
I requested for a detailed report on the fc test and fix/es applied as references. I'll post it as soon as I got it.
Also, did I mention I got a vehicle loaner during my car was on service? They supplied me a Kia Picanto 2004 model! The SA told me the Sportage and the better rides were all being used by Kia executives for the week because they are opening the new Kia Bldg. outlet in Iligan City. I don't care it's a Picanto, beggar don't choose!![]()
I actually was wondering and asked them the relevance of air-con load affecting my fc but I was told it indeed affected the fc and was the only thing they suspect at the time. They don't find anything wrong with the ECU settings but in any case was reset to re-fresh. I am still waiting for further notice by Kia Service to fix my fc issues and right now I am monitoring the improvement, if ever there is.

Boss hatch auto mo diba? D ko alam na may 1k pms.. sabi sa akin ng agent 1st pms is nasa 7.5k pa daw!
Question mga bossing, I have a m/t rio sedan and I only use it on weekends, what should I do? how often should I start the engine and how long?
Also, what are the possible issues that I may encounter, given the scenario. Thanks in advance guys
Actually sir chua_allan, wala sa manual yong 1k PMS pero yong outlet dito sa Cagayan de Oro City insisted on the 1K para daw mapalitan ng oil at fluid filters. Since I got poor fc issues early on it's life I did not protest on the 1K PMS para naman ma-check yong problem but I did insist na every 7.5k yong next and corresponding intervals rather on their recommended 5K! Total 1k PMS cost: P2,048.
At first they told me they needed 3 days to fix the fc problem but in reality it took them a day more to figure out what's wrong with the car. After conducting a field fc test and diagnostics, they sent the data to Kia Manila to make an appropriate recommendation on the proper course of action. Since everything looks normal (diagnostic readings), Manila suggested to re-program and update the ECU to address the air-con system load. They suspected it was the caused of the abnormal fc. They sent a new software patch and the local technician patch the ECU, at least that is what the technician told me. So far I'm nearing 1/4 left on the full tank and the fc doesn't look good. I may still not be able to break the poor fc trend I'm getting. I'll post the result within a couple of days from now.
If you are getting a 7km/L fc average with heavy traffic included then I would say your fc is good enough compared to mine- less than 6km/L on 5 full tanks. Malayong malayo nga sa 9km/L city fc as advertised.
You are right on the air-con, it's like an inverter.![]()
If that is the case sir chua_allan then welcome to the club! Gas guzzler nga ang Rio5 especially on idling.
Yep, I had that also parang delayed yong response ng pedal at biglang power boost at around 1500 RPM. Parang heavy yong take off from starting but if you gather momentum then malakas na yong engine and easy na yong acceleration. Ang Jazz nga instantaneous yong engine response kahit kunting gas lang yo can hear and feel the engine come to life and transmit it to the front tires agad.
Try nyo sir kung kaya nyo e-spin or scratch yong front tires from starting or on 1st gear. I can't do it in my Rio5 but I can easily do that on Starex A/T and Jazz A/T especially if something is blocking the tires or on uphill starting. Medyo mabagal yong Rio5 kahit e-full mo yong gas from stop eh dahan dahan yong acceleration hindi quick and instantaneous unless meron na kunting momentum then yon you can feel your back pressing against the seat ala zoom-zoom na.
Sir chua_allan,
I have a 1.4L M/T Sedan and have also noticed that the accelerator is not that sensitive.. Sometimes inaabotan ako na mamatay yung makina sa gitna ng daan from stop to go..
But nevertheless, the engine is quite responsive once you get used of the timing..![]()
I can't believe despite all that you can still say, at the end of the day, you're satisfied with a car that's supposed to deliver good FC figures and acceptable performance.
I believe there is really something wrong with the 1.4L Gamma engines that Hyundai and Kia brought in. Be hopeful guys, Hyundai found a fix. Won't be long for Kia to do the same ( i hope )
After all, the engines you have are similar to the Accent's. Which as of the moment, according to the owners' claims, consume an average of 8-10km/L on the city. Give and take that the Rio is much heavier ( i suppose bec. of the 17s vs. 14s of Accent ) the consumption shouldn't be any lesser than 6km/L. At that, it's already abnormal. What if the consumption drops to a whooping 5km/L, then it really gets alarming.
Hope Kia would find a fix. Ganda pa naman Rio HB aesthetically.
Is it really true that kia has no shipments of rio HB arriving i reserved june 26 then they said 2nd week of july then 4th week of july and now my SA told me that final delivery is on august 8. but i think overall the wait will be worth it
Mas magaan yung hatch kaysa sa sedan (1068 kg vs 1170 kg), so says Kia's brochure. It's believable kasi in general naman, hatch bodies are lighter than sedan bodies (Focus, Impreza, Fiesta, etc).
Yung rolling resistance lang siguro ng wider tires yung mas concern, but even then, the 1.4L 108HP Gamma engine shouldn't take too much of a hit since it's a relatively powerful powerplant.
Umaasa ako na makaka 9 km/L sa moderate city driving yung 5-door Rio. Kahit 1.6L Altis kaya yan eh![]()
I'm quite confident that those rio with FC problem needs ECU remapping. The ethanol blended fuel here is making the ECU program go haywire. KIA will not accept that of course unless KIA korea say it so.
search & watch the RIO British Challenge in Youtube. RIO Hatch was driven from Belfast to London in one full fuel tank, that was 797 miles distance.
