Pay attention to the way it starts. Alternator is one of the things to look out for. Make sure the battery has enough amperes as well. Power locks fail early. If they haven't already been replaced at this point, it can be anytime now. Since you're buying used, better to replace all the belts along with the fluids and filters. I learned this the hard way.
Finally, the Carnival has very good engine performance especially considering its size and weight. Pedal response is a tad delayed, but acceleration should be linear, light and brisk all the way to the redline even without flooring the pedal. If it does not behave this way even after doing all the maintenance work, I suggest Revive cleaning treatment available in Central Diesel or Atoy Customs. Night and day difference!
