need your comments pls. it is actually for a friend who has a crosswind xto. he has to tow a trailer with 1 jet ski. question:

    1. can you install a towing hitch?
    2. saan pwede bumili nito kung pwede? draw-tite, etc.
    3. can you add leaf springs to improve load capacity at the back? or change shocks? saan din pwede bumili ng mga accessories to do this?

thanks for all your comments/suggestions. great to have a board like this!

    1. You can install a trailer hitch for practically any vehicle. Mercedes Benz station wagons can be factory-fitted with one. Even properly equipped FWD sedans can tow.

    2. Sa RIDE ko po nakikita ang draw tite. May hitches din ata sa Carryboy. Since the Xwind uses basically the same frame as an Isuzu pick-up, maybe the Isuzu pick-up hitch can work. In the case of our Land Cruiser, we just had one fabricated by my dad's patient. Of course we spent the whole night making drawings and taking measurements because he did not have the slightest idea as to what a trailer hitch was.
3.You can just add helper springs like Ironman loadmasters. The Xwind already has an overload spring, right? It would be ideal to shift to stiffer shocks but ride quality might suffer when running unladen.

Another point you have to take into consideration is putting brakes on the trailer. Either the inertia type or electric type. Electrics always work better since they work immediately upon stepping on the brake pedal. Just an example: A Pajero can tow less than 2,000 lbs with an unbraked trailer. The rating doubles if the trailer has brakes.

Do not forget trailer lights. TAIL-BRAKE-and-TURN SIGNALS. Wiring these is a pretty easy process.

They shot it in such a way to make it SEEM like the Xwind was towing. Even PK made a parody of that shot using his PJERO.

Btw, getting a trailer to move is not really a problem. Even our 72 bhp GEN I can haul one. Getting it to stop is what you should focus your attention to.

Para hindi ma-tax yung suspension ng Xwind, keep the tounge weight down by shifting the load. Pero ingat lang kasi dapat balanced sa trailer ang load.

just my 2 cents... when I was in college (long time ago) My family had a spacewagon, volvo wagon and a vitara, all stock that pulls a trailer w 1 jetski.

the volvo and the vitara had original tow bars (from the dealer) the spacewagon had a fabricated version (this was done where the trailer was purchased, they can do any car), basic rule of thumb, tow bar should ba attached to the chassis, level of the tow ball (where you attach the hitch) should be same height to the trailer (trailer should be parallel to road).

I have seen during my days even an accord pulling 2 skis.

Basically we didnt change any part of the suspension though we didnt load the car anymore with rear passengers.

doing it with an Xwind should be easier...

base on experience, tell your friend to buy a small winch to pull the ski up... 2wd cars (even the xwind) will have a hard time on the sand.... BTW the winch is set at the REAR of the car (portable which you just attach to the tow bar)... you winch the ski up (not the car!) so that the car stays on FIRM sand.

Or better yet, invest on a 4x4 (but a small winch is less than 15T) during my time.

cta2: tnx for info share. yung winch di ko naisip.

    Ito yung initial na gagawin:

LoadPlus for Ironman (Au) - 3K lang incl. kabit from all inclusive sales sa paco. 1 hr lang daw. this will increase the carrying capacity of the rig. nasa Hans tools din ito.

Hitch - wala akong makita for xwind coz yung draw tite from campershell wala for this rig. baka nga pwede yung pang pick up coz ayun kay Otep basically pareho. Baka pwede -adapt.

Brakes - tama si Otep. We have to consider this coz limited nga kung walang brakes yung trailer. Yung trooper hanggang 3500 kg (normal - 1700 kg) kaya but only if it is braked. Kung hindi less than 1000 kg lang.

I will post results of this project.

personally, pulling 1 jet ski is very light... should be even less than 1000Kg.

but if the trailer is for 2 jetskis or for a jetboat... baka nga mahirapan.

I had no problem whatsoever with stock cars, but again no load inside the cars.

There is a shop in libis and tomas morato area that sells seado products... they also do tow bars for their trailers... forgot the names kasi matagal na talaga.... cost for spacewagon fabrication was 5T (circa 95)... vitara around 10T sa Ride Banawe original... yun sa Volvo direct sa dealer.

i think that the crosswinds' chassis is wider in the rear than the pick-up. you can have one made. here we have them custom made for less than the orig one. with regards to the brakes, as long as you are a responsible driver you will know that you are towing a trailer then you will adjust your driving style. sa suspension naman your friends trailer i supposed is orig naman it is balanced so that there will not that much stress on the towing car.

ARB: saan ba shop mo? sa thursday ko sasamahan friend ko for the hitch. also txt me naman how much yung cost. 9178977080
gusto ko sana one stop shop lang. fabricate and install all the needed accessories.

Ungas: tnx for the info kay freeman.

aha! si Ungas nag day off ngayon! nagkita kami sa armark. nice seeing you again bro. iba na talaga pag malalim ang balon. daming napapagawa. di ko na napakita yung rig mo sa friend ko. dami nga pala akong tanong sayo sa next EB regarding suspension set up.

yung hitch ni freeman custom made for xwind. ganda ng quality. parang draw tite. Kits, tnx for entertaining us.

a few K cheaper sa draw tite ung hitch nila. balik kami.

    Hehehe... buking!

May pinaayos lang po akong bushings, it's been bugging me for a week, pumuputok ng poly bushings ko. I had it returned to OE rubber bushings.

Sige sa EB mo tanong para mas malinaw.

jeep: definitely pwede ma-fabricate but yung gawa ni Freeman pulido. Parang draw tite but the receiver is square unlike yung pic mo.
