    Does anyone else find it repulsive (sorry for lack of better word at the moment) ?

    Somehow it is visible from the back of Isuzu Mu-X, and it is asymmetrical.

    Pretty much all SUVs now has it (not sure if they are all called panhard bar though).

    What exactly is it for? My Alterra does not have it and its suspension is doing fine.

    Keeps the axle from shimmying sideways. Your Alterra doesn't need it because it's leaf-sprung.

    Coil-sprung live axles don't have rigid leaf springs to keep them centered. A panhard bar is a cheap way of keeping the axle centered without splurging on an independent rear suspension,

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    Panhard bar vs Watt's linkage Тяга Панара и параллелограмм Уатта - YouTube

    Basically there are 3 ways to control lateral movement on live axle rear suspension,

    1. Leaf spring - old tech/terrible for lateral support.
    2. Panhard rod and;
    3. Watts link

    Old gen and all new-Fort, monty, trail/mux uses panhard rod.

    Only the all new everest uses watts link.

    Something to ponder on. ;)

    Sa 20kph average speed mo sa metro manila trapik, di mo talaga ramdam yan. What is more important is vertical movement not lateral...

    Only during high speed driving sa highways or dirt roads papunta sa inyong province mo mafeel difference.
