benny: You won't notice it if you're the type of driver who accelerates, brakes, or turns very gently. Ma no-notice mo yan if you are driving along provincial roads, etc. kapag nag o-overtake ka. Parang "barko" feeling ng expedition that as you pass the car at the left side, you'll feel the body sway to the left, tapos pag cut mo na sa car and you turn the wheel to the right, feeling mo as if yung body gusto pa mag remain sa current lane nya at ayaw mag switch. Also, if you're running lets say around 80-90kph in an uneven road, you'll notice that you'll have to constantly trim your steering wheel coz the body rolls from side to side. You won't notice that if you're driving here in Manila esp. sa SLEX or NLEX coz the roads are smooth and even. Tapos try mo din mag hard-breaking. You'll feel as if the nose of the car has some pitching. Parang nagdi-dip ng excessive. Then try to hit corners a bit faster than usual. You'll notice the side to side pitch also. After we changed to OLD MAN EMU, halos nawala lahat. Very satisfied. I think you'll spend close to P20k for a set of 4 shocks. Call RATS.
Regarding your power antenna, that was a problem I encountered too. Kasi whenever we drive sa province, maraming low-lying foliage sa right side ng road and this hits the antenna often. We installed a variable switch for the antenna and located it in one of the vacant switches beside your handbrake. Bale when the radio is on, you press on the switch and you could variably increase the height of the radio. However, if you press the down switch, it won't retract. You'll have to turn off the radio and press the down switch for the antenna to retract. I think kayang kaya tong gawin ng mga shops sa Banawe.
wiretap_md,
napansin ko nga yan kanina sa SLEX... yung overtaking na parang gustong mag-stay sa current lane... pwede bang front lang ang palitan ko?
yung variable switch for power antenna, naka-series lang ba 'to sa radio on ? may lower at upper limit ba 'tong power antenna or naka-servo mechanism sya that will stop if the current increases???
ano nga palang max speed pag break-in period?
benny: I'm not sure of the performance gain if you'll merely change the front shocks lang. I suggest you save up nalang for the 4 shocks para sabay at hindi bitin.
Regarding the power antenna, I'm not really sure how to answer you because it was my cousin's shop who installed it and I wasn't there personally.
Regarding max speed kapag break-in, just don't go above 80-90kph. You'll be fine.
About your VCD monitor, mukhang loose connection lang yan siguro. Hindi Skyroof edition yung Trooper namin (bought August 2002). We installed a Pioneer AVX-P7300DVD system with motorized LCD sa front. Medyo mahal nga lang pero worth it. I suggest you take a look at this should you decide on putting an LCD system in front. Yun nga lang, it covers the aircon controls so dapat you have to retract the LCD if you want to turn on or off the aircon. Pero pwede naman ma tilt.
Don't remove the plastic covers sa carpet especially the ones near the accelerator pedal para hindi ma dumi. You'll notice that the "beige" interior of the trooper gets soiled easily.
You may want to install a weathertech (www.weathertech.com) molded matting for the rear cargo space. RIDE Banawe has one. Got the black one a few months ago for P2,500.
Putting a rear towbar adds some pogi points too. We installed DRAWTITE (www.drawtite.com). Again, this is available at RIDE.
I'll be going home to Bacolod on April 7 and I'll try to post some updated pics para makita mo, including that of the "pen-sized" APEX-i turbo timer which we relocated beside the auto-shift. We also installed a customized rubber splashguard between the stepboards and the rear tire wells.

Bosch funfare is ok. Thats what we installed too. In fact, we installed 3 pairs para malakas. Pero I suggest you go for Stebel Magnums.
wiretap_md, tnks for the advise... wait ko pix ng trooper mods mo...
I just measure my gas consumption on the first trip:
when i got the trooper last saturday, nag-full tank ako...
from pasay (residence) punta ng megamall last sunday,
monday, tagaytay--- picnic grv, palace in the sky, & the newly renovate taal vista hotel.
tuesday , ofc lang at bahay... full tank after 210km trip.
it turned out to be 6.5km/l...
ganito ba talaga :?: :?: :?:
paging all trooper owner : IceColdBeer, gjtech, boybi, wiretap...
pls post your consumption here...
yung 6.5 km/L na yun may heavy traffic bang kasama yun or stop-and-go driving? that will make your average plunge... pero anyway, it's bound to improve as the engine loosens up after the break-in period...
mbt, sana nga... the reason also I choose trooper is its consumption ( aside from its performance)... walang heavy traffic na na-encounter... ahhh may stationary din ako sa bahay when i studied the radio...
I really didn't have the chance to measure it. Perhaps this coming holy week bubusisiin ko na ng husto. Tamang tama lang kasi bagong service lang yun for the first 1500 kms.
benny: sa akin 6.2 to 6 lang city driving have already lag 7k into it.. talaga atang ganun... expected ko din nga at least 10 eh . First 5,000 if possible wag ka muna masyado lumampas ng 2,500 rpm.
Sa akin first 3,000 i stick to the below 2,500 pero after minsan nilalampas ko na.. and have already tried going beyond 100 km... ganun talaga sarap patakbuhin ng mabilis hehee
Di ka naman mabibitin sa speed nyan.. have tried 160km/h and kaya pa pag tinapak kaso di na kaya ng puso ko hehehe
i was getting 6+ when my trooper was new (<5K kilometers) now i am fluctuating between 6.8 to 7.5 for city driving. pure highway (no traffic e.g. go to laguna, batangas, etc.) easily 10 km/l. what i noticed that influenced this aside from traffic conditions are tire inflation pressure and driving style (this is the major influencer). looks like you are getting normal mileage
