The 2014 Isuzu D-Max will make its much-awaited debut in the Philippines by next month according to various reliable sources, with a launch date reportedly scheduled for September 18.
The new Isuzu D-Max has been on sale in Thailand since October 2011, and is manufactured there. However, due to the heavy floods from mid 2011 to early 2012 as well as the high demand for pick-ups in Thailand, roll outs to other markets like the Philippines were delayed.
The new-generation D-Max was developed alongside the Chevrolet Colorado, sharing the same platform and 3,095mm wheelbase (45mm longer than the outgoing model). Overall length has been stretched to 5,190mm from 4,995mm. It stands taller at 1,791mm compared to 1,760mm and wider at 1,859 from 1,800mm. Standard versions will be 1,775mm wide and 1,685mm tall.
It was revealed to us that a total of six variants of the new generation Isuzu pickup that will be released for the Philippine market.
There will be two engine options initially available: a new 3.0-liter CRDI turbodiesel (possibly a modified 4JJ1-TC) and a new 4JK1-TC 2.5-liter CRDI turbodiesel. It was also revealed to us that Isuzu may have decided to skip the variable turbo for the meantime, though it is still not confirmed.
Topping the range are 4 distinct LS variants: D-Max 4x4 LS 3.0L 5-speed A/T, D-Max 4x4 LS 3.0L 5-speed M/T, D-Max 4x2 LS 3.0L 5-speed A/T and the D-Max 4x2 LS 3.0L 5-speed M/T. All LS models are high rider versions for extra ground clearance.
Slotting under the LS versions are two more versions: D-Max 4x2 LT 2.5L 5-speed M/T and the D-Max 4x2 2.5L Single Cab 5-speed M/T. The LT and base variants will have standard ride heights.
Pricing and further details on options have yet to be released, but Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) reportedly plans to sell about 1,500 units of the 2014 Isuzu D-Max from its introduction until the end of 2013. The initial supply of the D-Max will come from Isuzu’s facility in Thailand, but IPC is reportedly planning local assembly alongside the Crosswind.
