Been having problems with the overdrive of our trooper. had it checked and compu box was fixed. but the auto tranny was still not running normally. after servicing the throttle body with no improvement. the whole tranny is now being overhauled.
brand of the rebuilding kit is bryco. hopefully it will be finished by tom.
Just a question mga sirs: What happened why Isuzu discontinued the production of the Trooper?
I think the Trooper package is way better than the Alterra or MU-7 granting its given an updated engine.
Good day.
The Isuzu Trooper was a mid-size SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Isuzu between 1981 and 2005. It was exported worldwide as the Isuzu Bighorn, Isuzu Trooper, Isuzu Trooper II , Caribe 442, Acura SLX, Chevrolet Trooper, Subaru Bighorn, Honda Horizon, Opel/Vauxhall Monterey, Holden Jackaroo, and Holden Monterey.
Yes it is true trooper is way better than the alterra. In the US after ten years, however, this model was discontinued, mainly based on falling sales due to negative reviews. A consumer agency claimed the Isuzu Trooper tended to roll over during auto testing. Although a lawsuit resulted largely in Isuzu's favor, the reviews ultimately ended up tarnishing the Trooper's image, and Isuzu chose to discontinue the line in 2002 and replaced in favor of the smaller Axiom and the larger GM-produced Isuzu Ascender.
Here in Asia it was discontinued in 2005 and replaced by Alterra or MU-7. The reason here is different because most trooper sold here are diesel version and the first CRDI 4JX1 are among the issue because of high cost of maintenance due to problematic injectors.![]()
WOW chief, thanks!
Sayang chief, Isuzu already got the 3-litre Ddi-iTEQ (4JJ1-TC standard) by year 2004, incidentally the same engine fitted to today's Philippine-version DMax and Alterra. By 2006, Isuzu released yet again an improved version of the 2004 engine, the 3-litre iTEQ VGS turbo engine (4JJ1-TCX). Both engines are rectangularly-configured (long-stroke), torquey where the peak torque is distributed widely along the powerband, and are fuel-efficient CRDi's. The 4JJ1-TCX engine is fitted to the Euro-, Aussie-, Kiwi-, South American- and Thai-DMax's. This engine, however, hasn't reach yet our local market
They could have fitted one of those into the Trooper hence no need for the MU-7 and Alterra, which is essentially just a DMax SUV....Anyway, Isuzu can always "re-birth" the Trooper if it really wants to, just like what Ford did to the Ford Taurus when the new President Mullaly took charge in 2006.
Just recently, my Thai friend informed me that a new 2012 Isuzu DMax "RT-50" will be released for next year. It was tested in Chonburi, Thailand and initial horsepower figures are at above 180'ish.... Same engine will be fitted to the Thai's MU-7. Also, coming with the flagship RT-50 will be a 2.5-litre VGT-equipped DMax.
Visited the trooper this morning. I saw the mechanic installing the valve body back to the tranny. Bong the owner said that they double checked with the service manual that everything in the valve body was placed correctly. I didn't hear from they this afternoon. so i guess there is still a problem:-(
