With the latest sudden and expensive fuel pump replacement of our Venture, my dad is now really thinking of disposing it. He is now open to trying out the Hyundai Starex to replace the Venture. He is interested in the Jumbo model (11 seater) but according to the HARI website, it only comes with a manual tranny. If I remember right, I know they used to offer A/T variants for the prefacelifted Jumbo models.
We also wish to get some feedback from Starex Jumbo owners out there regarding the ride since the Jumbo models have leaf springs in the rear instead of coil springs like the 9 seaters. TY.

There is an A/T jumbo model in Korea. Locally, HARI only stocks M/T models. You may want to inquire about indent ordering the unit (much the same way you order 4WD Starex units).

Why go with the long model? The standard one has about the same capacity as the Venture. For such a short extension in wheelbase, they had to compromise passenger and cargo room to stuff in the additional row. That's why we went with the MB100 instead during the time we were van shopping (10 years ago).

Another question, does the Starex Jumbo have ABS & airbags? Sa website sabi wala raw. TY uli.

ABS and airbags are available. But I don't think HARI stocks them locally, again you have to indent order them. Try checking the luggage space of the 9 seater. I can usually carry a week's worth of groceries in them. The Jumbo is longer, but this is offset by the addition of the extra row. Luggage space stays the same. And if I'm not mistaken, the Jumbo has a one piece fold and tumble rear seat unlike the standard's split and lift rear seat which is more versatile. In terms of personal space, you'd have more of it in the standard model. Knee and leg room becomes a premium in the Jumbo.

The standard model's second row seat can also be turned into a side facing or a rear facing bench. Not sure if Jumbos can do this feat.

Putting a roof carry system on the Jumbo is also more impractical due to the bubble top configuration (standard is flat top). A removable roof cargo system from reputable manufacturers like Thule could solve your cargo worries on the standard. Thule has lockable and weathertight roof mount compartments. They have their office near UST (Liftruk marketing). What kind of stuff do you cram into the current Venture and how often?

1 seafood cooler, mini-maletas (like the Samsonite/Echolac stroller luggages), bags w/ 2 days worth of clothing, occasionally a small sack of rice & the groceries ++. We travel 2-3 times a month to the province.

We won't use the 4th row that often, we're actually after the additional cargo space available in the Jumbo with the last row folded.

Knee & leg room are not much of a problem to us as most of us in the family are on the petite side.

i drive a starex 2002 jumbo, hehehe.. advantage para sa amin when going to the province eh mas marami ang baggage na nakakarga namin.. we have to fold the last row seat para magkasya lalo yung gamit nmin.. as for leg room, the 2nd and 3rd row, pwede nman ma-adjust yung legroom nya but tlagang mas masikip compared sa 9 seater starex, actually kung marami kayo, alanganin yung space ng cargo sa likod, kse maliit nlng yung space ng cargo sa likod..

problem ko lang sa jumbo is when im using when going around the metro, masyado malaki, it took me some time to practice how to park it properly kse minsan talaga alanganin yung parking space especially sa mga ibang lugar na maliit yung parking space and yung mga kalsadang masisikip.. but we are satisfied sa starex nmin.. ok na ok pambiyahe!

isnt there a long wheelbase version of the starex with the 9 seater configurations? i know i have seen one, maybe it was from the gray market... but with 2 rows of seats plus the extra length, its very roomy inside...

where can i see a jumbo starex? I leave in lower Antipolo very near Marikina.
Wala kasing Hyundai dealer malapit sa amin. I want to see how big the cargo area is, with all the seats in the upright position. Is it as big as the grandia? I have seen some pictures of the grandia in this forum. Initially I was already inclined to buy the starex but when I saw the grandia pictures, parang nagdalawang isip uli ako, although I was disappointed that the 3rd row seats can't be folded. This april pa naman ako may planong bumili so Im not in a hurry. One thing that really attracted me to the starex is the huge difference in torque and horsepower which I think is very important when you do long drives. Importante din sa akin iyong maraming makaupo at the same time, maraming luggage space din. I think we will only be using the vehicle at most 2x a month, pag nag out of town trips lang ang pamilya.

So now you've got to decide on the tranny as well as body size and configuration. Good luck.

To all of you owners of Starex GRX Crdi 2006 M/T

    Thanks

yup indent order ang matic and 4x4 grx manual and matic, 2-3 months daw ata..... may display sa wheels e.rod, white ata ung jumbo grx...1.4M ung 4x4 grx manual/matic, 1.3 ata yang jumbo..pag nagpa indent ka, sabihin mo na lahat ng gusto mo pasama....pero additional cost...

2 bucket seats sa front may center console, not seat...
2+1 reclining, "sliding on rails" bench type seating for the 2nd and 3rd row..dont know if they're rotating, pero mostlikely the second row is...
the 4th row is a bench type- tumble-fold configuration...

and honestly, if i ever i'l get this, i'll remove the last row....kasi when its un-folded, sagad na halos na pinto/tailgate, unlike sa 9-seaters....may cargo space ka pa!

it has automatic climate control system for front and rear, unlike the 9-seater grx na manual aircon..auto headlights, handsfree-->eto di ko alam pano silbi..

but the downside is i find the rear seating less plushier than the 9-seater...ala L300 versa van...

when the lastrow is folded, it also serves as sa barrier, a divider for cargo and passenger...

mga sir any feedback din sa 4x4 starex? same ride quality b sya ng 4x2? hw about handling? kamusta under chasis? matibay ba? do they offer the 7 seater type? or final queation is it worth na mag 4x4 starex or mag sorento na lang? tnx

We are also looking for a family van. Ang options ko rin ay starex 12 seater or grandia or commuter. Mostly the van is intended for out of town trips ng family namin I have my car for city driving. We expect 2 families to ride in 1 van para makatipid sa gas and mas masaya , so the more seats, the better, also because its a long trip, I expect a lot of luggage space requirements as well. Compared to the traditional GRX, Is the backspace of the Jumbo the same? How about the Grandia, Is the back space as big as the regular starex? A roof rack is not an option because I dont want to go up and down the van to haul the coolers and bags. I am also considering buying a hiace commuter (15 seater) and permanently remove the last row.In this case I still have 12 seats and acceptable luggage space, ang problema ko, baka di naman comfortable ang seats ng commuter pag long drive. I would appreciate any comments from you guys.

I wouldn't even consider getting that commuter. With it's rock hard bench seats, bare steel interior, steel rims and lawanit panels! Grabe ang presyo ng Toyota para dito.

The Grandia is not very luggage flexible since the seats don't fold and there's not much room behind the last row. Either kandungin mo ang baggage or get a trailer. hehehe.

The Starex also does not have much room in the back. AFAIK, a big cooler will not fit with the last row upright. But for smaller pieces, you can stuff them under the last row seats. The Jumbo has a bubble top and is longer than the 9-seater. The seats are a bit different also

The Nissan Urvan Grand Estate Php1.25M now is also a nice van. Just get one with the folding rear seats. It has a non turbo version of the Patrol engine. Still good for around 105bhp. Of course, the Starex's 145bhp mill easily outguns it.
