Anybody here who had its turbo checked and repaired outside of the casa ?

My uncle's Sta fe was diagnosed by Hyundai Dasma to be defective and recommended replacement of a new unit , cost est about P 90k. Hyundai voided the warranty because my uncle did not follow strictly the maintenance schedule of every 5000 km. Mileage is just 40k kms and just 3 years old.

Can you recommend any turbo especialist where we can have it checked and get a quote for its repair?
    Thanks

There are places that rebuild. Around 30k.

How long did he go without having a PMS? with the hot Manila weather and traffic, it's very easy for oil to coke up inside the turbo bearings and ruin it if you don't perform adequate preventive maintenance.

is it standard for the sta fe to be equipped w/ a turbo timer?

with the montero sport it's considered to be an accessory, and as expected, they're (the casa) selling it a cost of an arm and a leg. if you're thinking of having it installed outside the confines of the casa, they're going to threaten you with the voided warranty clause in turn.

demmit! manufacturers should just have them turbo timers installed as standard equipment

Or owners should simpy allow the turbos to cool down before shutting off and change the oil regularly...

If you don't have a turbo timer:

    1) Allow 30 seconds spindown after running for short distances or climbing up a small hill.
    2) 1 minute if you've been running at high speeds.
    3) 2 minutes if you've just finished a long distance drive. Like going up to Baguio.

I usually cool down for 5mins after long drives or after a trip around a heavy-traffic street...

just drive slow for the last 500 meters without revving past 1500 rpm, then allow 30 seconds-1 minute idle to cool down. di na need yang turbo timer na yan.

as for the turbo overhaul, ask ka kaya sa goodgear/fronte/seiring muna kung meron sila turbo overhauling kit. pag meron e for sure anyone who can overhaul a turbo can also do the vgt.

yun a minute or 2 na slow drive inside the village or looking for parking is enough for the turbo to cool down. Hindi kilangan talaga yan for normal road use. Pang pahaba lang ng birdie yan turbo timer para malaman ng iba may turbo yun kotse.

Nasiraan na ako ng turbo sabog yun vanes ng impeller. Its a hyundai matrix crdi. Turbo replacement talaga ang recommended ng casa. Yun nasa 100K plus din with labor and after tax. Yun goodgear/fronte/seiring nasa 50K yun new turbo. Pero napa overhaul ko at a cost of less than 30K. Look for the guy sa sulit na adiamante69 they fix turbos. Sa blumentrit, sampaloc yun shop nya. Sumasalo din sila ng turbo problems ng hyundai casa. Aviation mechanic ata background nila. They give warranty na 3 months ata. Yun akin almost 2 years running na.

Nagiba nga lang yun feel ng turbo ko -baka, because na ondoy before sumabog yun original turbo. Before kasi halos walang turbo lag. Now meron na. Not sure din kung mas malakas as before. Hirap comapare with the lag, but mahatak parin talaga. And ang tulin padin. Sasabay sa mga accent crdi taxis na ng iiwan ng mga SiR. FC still the same. Work done was - sabi nila yun impeller ang na replace and still using the stock turbo housing, new seals, bushings or bearings and balancing. If my memory serves me well. No need to tune same as stock specs daw. Pati wala rin ako idea ng turbo tune ng diesel. I didn't see all the replace parts na. Naiwan sa shop when they delivered the car sa house after the work. But anytime I can passby to get it.

Probably the bearing isn't as smooth as the original, which might have been a low friction one.

siguro nga... And I have a feeling meron nga custom made parts pa eh. Pero I'll still choose that over a 100K+ original on a flooded car with a FMV worth 200K. It works naman. Almost 2 years running strong that car is a work horse.
