1. If you're the everyday consumer, there's no problem in getting OEM-made head units.
2. Your definition of SQ is more defined about your digital signal processing more than anything else. Any head unit can sound good as long as they have DSP.
3. All head units are made in China or some low-cost country. Even Pioneers and Alpines... well, maybe except their 6-digit head units (Pioneer ODRs and Alpine F1 Status) which are probably still made in Japan.
4. As to which OEM-made head unit you should choose: go for the features you'll be using, the interface that you like, and finally... a price that is justifiable. In other words, don't mind the branding.
5. Oh, and I'm on my stock head unit too. Except that it performs much like those 6-digit head units... after a few tweaks here and there (which aren't for the faint-of-heart) and I professionally compete. Ako lang ganito saamin though
