Hyundai i30 = P1M
Kinda hard to say it is an "average man" hatchback car, especially in the Philippine setting. If you were to ask me, I would consider the Mazda2 or the Ford Fiesta as the average Filipino man's hatchback. Fun to drive, good handling with affordability.
The i30 is quiet, refined and rides pretty well. Space is also decent. But at over 1m for the 1.6 CRDi... it's probably worth it to spend that extra 100k to get the Ford Focus TDCi instead. The Focus has less rear legroom, but you get more motor, more tech and more luxury amenities for the money. The i30 is just too under-specced for the price.
Even better... get yourself an Elantra. Much cheaper. Much more spacious. Drives better. Rides just as well. Looks fantastic in comparison.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Well, it certainly is a looker. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that it is a 1-Series basher, especially in terms of performance. Sure, the CRDi engine may be able to outrun the lower variants, but even so, the suspension will never be upto BMW standards.
Sa looks puede.
But remember marami rin bakla namagkamalang babae hitsura.![]()
Get a grey market Rio 1.6GDi! The looks wouldn't look out of place beside the Mini right next to you, and it's got the performance to back it up too. The i30 is old. I think they're discontinuing it soon. In fact the new i30 has already been introduced elsewhere. And then the new Focus is fast coming as well.
Mid of this year the new 2012 i30 will be release here

for both GDI and CRDi engine so if the choices includes the new i30 and not the current one then I go for new i30![]()
muntik na namin mabili yang i30. buti nalang na-convince ko dad ko na focus ang kunin. these are my reasons.
2.0turbo diesel vs a 1.6turbo diesel - lampas 1M na, no brainer to.
5MT lang available na diesel variant ng i30 vs 6speed DCT - lampas 1M na, manual at 5speed parin? no brainer.
spacewise - focus
breed - focus
drive - focus
availability ng parts - focus
which is why wala kang makikitang i30 sa kalsada. twice palang ako nakakakita. focus tdci parami ng parami even though may replacement na.
all Hyundais are overpriced right now bec. of stripped down standard accessories. it's overpriced and has low resale value.
the only viable Hyundai to buy right now are the accents and the starex for family.
and of course yun 2nd gen sta fe.
Kuripot na wala sa lugar.
True, if you're looking for a budget-car andyan naman yung i10 or Accent [medyo hesitant lang talaga yung iba bec. of the problems]
Tapos if you're tired of seeing Altises, there's the Hyundai Elantra 1.6GL MT. 818k, without discounts pa. You get more from what an Altis 1.6E can offer.
Tapos ayun nga, yung Starex.
The 3rd gen Hyundai Santa Fe is way too overpriced IMO. Ewan ko lang kung pano i-price ng HARI yun, pero with how the grey-market dealers priced it.. crazy.
Totoong mejo mahal ang honda but i dont think its fair na icompare ang quality nya sa hyundai. IMO.
The new Accent and Elantra are scertainly directly comparable to Honda in terms of quality already. The Santa Fe, on the other hand, has been on Consumer Reports' "Recommended" list for the past few years, already... most of CR's "Recommended" cars are Toyota and Honda products.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
not a fan of both honda or hyundai but i don't see any reason why the quality of honda is any better than hyundai. to be honest i'd rather own a hyundai now than a honda, atleast hyundai offers a more exciting car with more features than honda. these past couple of years honda has a boring line up and i haven't seen a car they sell that i would consider owning.
For the price of the boring-but-tested City 1.3S, you can get a Yaris 1.5G, a Swift 1.4 VVT, a Mazda 2 1.5V, and so on. Basically it's priced against 1.5L subcompacts that are of course more powerful, and are roughly as fuel efficient. Space lang lamang ng City sa mga kapresyo niya.
Now if we're talking about the 1.5E City, then there's the 1.6 GLS Accent, which is bigger, has more features, has a more powerful engine, and for me, looks much better. If you're the sporty type, there's the nimble Mazda 2 1.5R (which is over 30k cheaper BTW), and the sporty-yet-sensible Fiesta Sport Powershift.
Back when the City only competed with the Vios, it was clearly the more exciting choice. Now, it sits in an awkward middle ground where it doesn't really dominate in any particular aspect - which makes me think that the only reason the City still sells in huge numbers is that big H on its grille.
