If you rely on the numbers, you are missing a lot.

Remember the gamma engines have 'knocking' and 'low power' issues due to pre-mature/defective CVVT system of some. So how sure are you that you are indeed using all of your '107hp'?

^^ That's another good point. Unless you're lucky to have a knock-less unit.

One still shouldn't bet on it..this completely new 'Kappa' engine probably won't guarantee a knock-free experience and a host of other maladies..this basically takes us back to our experience with the 2011 model all over again..I also don't like how they pad their advertised mileage figures..it hurts their rep a lot..a gimmick to entice a flock of buyers into their dealerships i guess..

I've driven the Gamma 1.4 and I don't think it's as powerful as its 107 hp on paper might lead you to believe. If this "weaker" engine has a better powerband that fares well with its transmission, then it'll be faster and more useful that its knocking predecessor.
My opinion: pro or against this new engine does not matter.

I hope and pray I am wrong of my initial assumptions and you are right Sir. If this new kappa engine is really a better one with no engine knocks, with a better powerband and fuel economy then that is good. It will really save a lot of new buyers of this model future headaches, unnecessary fuel expenses and warranty disappointments some of us 1st owners (rather my sister) have experienced.

Verdict: Not so optimistic and skeptic of Hyundai's claim of the new kappa engine. I am not an expert but like the author of the article the specs does raise eyebrows on the improvements of the new engine. Again I hope I'm proven wrong.

I haven't driven both engines for the Accent but I think this is a good move for Hyundai. If I am correct, this Kappa engine uses the same "platform" from the 1.2 Kappa engine from the i10 which is also used for the current Kia Rio Lx and Slx trims. Iv'e tried the i10 and the engine has good pull and great fuel economy. As for the Kia Rio, reviews have been good for the 1.2 lx and slx. Again I say this is a good move from Hyundai if the old Kappa engine from the i10 and Kia Rio are to be used as somewhat of a performance yardstick. In regards to underpower, just look at the Vios, 1.3, 87 hp only and yet we see how taxi vios fly in the express ways, it can also make the Baguio climb so I think 97 hp for the new Kappa engine is just fine.

I'm caught between the Accent Sedan and Kia Rio 1.4.. but overall i guess the upcoming vios would be the safest choice.. Well see what other comments or experiences will come out in the months to come..

Any replacement engine that does not exhibit the same knocking issues as the Gamma is a welcome change.
