    Congratulations on your new ride.

My father is looking for a new compact SUV. Since I already have a Fortuner, he wanted another make & model. We examined the All-new RAV4 last weekend, however my father did not like the styling which he said is too "funky" for him. I told him about the new Tucson which enjoyed a good review by the owners.

We will be visiting the Tucson dealer in the next few days. Hope my father will like it. Thanks a lot for this thread.

Saw a black one last night sa Libis, cute nga sya, not too big, not too small... The size makes it a little special, hindi AUV-sized...

It's a great looking car and the price (for the petrol model) is a freaking steal. I might be on the market for one in a couple of months when I finally get to dump the crappy AUV here.

OT: Why do people call it Tuc?

People have this tendency of shortening terms, "Tuc" = short for "Tuc-son". Though Tucson is actually read as "Too-sawn" which is a place in Arizona US. Some people I know read it as "Tuck-son".

Hope you get yours soon dude.

^ Exactly. That's why I was kind of baffled when I read this nickname. Yes, shortening is okay. But it's just weird to put in a C when in reality (phonetically), it's not supposed to exist.

I hope I get mine real soon. Nag-increase na ba ulit ng price? How much na kaya after the additional taxes?

I was able to inspect the Tucson model last Monday when I had my van PMS'ed. It was real neat. Okay sana ang 4x2, kaso I understand that it comes only with MT. If I am buying another vehicle, I would have preferred an AT so that my better-half can drive it in comfort. The 4x4 AT version is about P300,000 more...

Hyundai is also selling a 4x2 2.0 CVVT A/T model. The cost is about P938k (pre-VAT)

    CVT,
    4x2 MT was 888k pre-VAT
    4x2 AT was 938k pre-VAT

not bad ha.. pero i think the 4x2 AT is a gas-guzzler. 140hp yung gasoline, dragging 1400kg. it's not much lighter than an innova (about 200kg lighter) and it weighs 200kg more than a mid-size 2.0L car like a 626 or toyota corona.

Gas consumption isn't that bad. I averaged between 7 to 8 km per liter. During the first 1k. I expect that its consumption would further improve once it rakes in additional mileage.

orly_andico and ET1: Thank you for the information. I guess I wasn't really listening last Monday. At P938K + 2%(?) , it is indeed a good buy, by any measure!

OT the 4x4 version has a pretty lame engine. 110ps 2.0L low-pressure turbo.
the matrix CRDi is 102ps 1.5L variable-geometry turbo.

parang mas good deal yung matrix it's almost 30% cheaper and has a better engine. di naman gaanong mataas yung ground clearance nung tucson compared sa matrix.

If you tried test driving it, you would be pleasantly surprised by the linear acceleration and very responsive engine. It is also very quiet, almost unlike a typical diesel.

i don't doubt that the engine is great. i was merely pointing out that the matrix has a better engine. everyone is waiting for the tucson 2.0L CRDi to get the variable geometry turbo as well, so it's pretty much no argument that the VGT-equipped matrix 1.5L diesel is the bette engine.

One thing that impressed my friends it the quiet engine. Once I even started it again forgetting that the engine was already running. I've tried the diesel as well and it's almost the same. Another is the virtually smooth transmission. You hardly notice which gear you're in unless you shift to sports mode to take a peek.

Funny thing happened today on my morning drive to work along Edsa. Another Tucson exactly the same as mine drove up to my side in front of Nepa-Q-Mart and we drove side by side up until Ortigas. We parted somewhere along Emerald Ave. It was like, hey we have exactly the same car. The only diff was the DLSU sticker at the rear window

Thanks for the pic Bryantpark, am going to check out Roadstar this weekend.
If you want to match it with the interiors, ask Jannine or any of the staff to show you the swatches of the seat cover that was picked up last Friday (Feb 10). It took us quite a while to choose which colors came closest to the interiors. Remember, I was able to haggled from 3,500 to 2,800. If ever they give you a better deal, don't let me know hehe. I came back for it after two days.
