I wouldn't recommend Hyundai dealerships handled by Autohub Group... the rates don't make you feel like you're saving money for buying a Hyundai vehicle.

To add: if your car is in need of body repairs, do not turn it over to any Autohub Dealership... group of companies 'yan at isa lang ang kumpanya nila na naghahandle ng body repairs.

Can I ask how many Hyundai owners have problems with Rack and Pinion, (specially for newer car models like the 2011 Accent and Elantra?)

I have this problem and saw quite a few people in other threads have this too (and this are only recent posts.. maybe there's more complaints elsewhere .. ie., the "Accent Problems" thread is over a hundred pages so maybe there's some mentioned somewhere in there)

    But to recap:

#1. The mechanic in my last PMS said i have a Rack & Pinion problem (after I complained) , and he admitted its a common problem, and they have replaced several already under warranty. Problem is, I applied for warranty replacement but the Casa closed down already (Otis)

#2. Read some other Tsikoters managed to get their rack and Pinion Replaced.

#3. Read some other Tsikoter also complaining of Rack and Pinion problems, but so far no updates from them, (I am creating this thread in the hopes of consolidating any similar complaints out there, instead of being scattered in other threads)

#4 Read post of maimaicomp,, his Elantra has the same Rack and Pinion problem but he has a nightmare dealing with Hyundai Edsa for the warranty..

#5 Re: Warranty Claims/PMS schedule/"5 year extendy Warranty"/ HARI after sales service..... Several ongoing threads about this where MANY HYUNDAI OWERS ARE COMPLAINING. (see #4). However, there are some who had easier time with Warranty claims (see #2)

#6. Btw, I googled "Hyundai (or Accent) Rack and Pinion Problems/Warranty" didnt find any results of anyone really complaining about this. Only anecdotal evidence (see # 1-4) I was wondering if this is an issue in units sold in other markets (for example, it seems accent rear shocks is widely acknowledged as a known issue)

So...anyone out there care to share any similar experiences? Now that my Casa (who at first seemed to say no problem to my warranty claim..they even took pics and everything) is closed, I need to find a RELIABLE, HASSLE-FREE CASA (Is there even such a thing? According to #2, there are). I already know to Avoid North Edsa like the Plague. So Any Suggestions? How about Hyundai Macapagal?

Thanks in Advance to any advice.

    Hi sir,

If I may ask, ito (Rack & Pinion issue) ba yung tunog kalampag when driving in some uneven terrain?

    Thank you

I hope this wont come back and bite me.. i did ask opinions here where's the best place to go to and was warned against certain casas.. but in the end i took a chance and brought it to Manila Bay mainly for convenience. Other factors:

    * Since a mechanic warned me that its dangerous to drive my accent bec of the loud steering noise, i became wary of driving it to the farther casas with M.M. traffic. Manila Bay is 10 mins away from our house.

    * I did scope it out first before bringing my car, service staff seems reasonable, and i bumped into a Sales agent I knew back in Otis . He said he'll help me.

    * Finally, I reasoned with the clear and obvious manifestation of the problem, and with car only 15k and less than 3 years, my warranty claim should be a no-brainer (one would think)

Anyway, my appointment was at 9:00am and i finished at 3:00pm!!! Sobrang habang pila at dami ng nagpapa-service! Thats the only bummer.. e sabi nga nung mechanic na nag-drive to he service bay e rinig na rinig yung problem. And when they were backing up to the lifter, lakas ng tunog rinig sa buong service bay. O paano pa nila rereject yung broken part na yan?

Still they had to make me wait and inspect it closely and finally they said it is indeed up for a replacement and will order the part and will contact me when its available. So I passed the first part already.. crossing my fingers till they install it with hopefully no hassles.

I dont want to come back here and whine and be told "I told you so"

Yun ang sabi ng mechanic from my previous casa, and from other tsikot forumers here. To be honest it was my first time to hear about "Rack and Pinion" because in 20 years of driving i dont recall having that probem in our previous cars. (baka naman sa Automatic lang yan?) Yan nga complain ko e.. our much much older 2 cars e mga shocks and tie-rods lang napapalitan dun ayos na (after way beyond 5 years pa lumabas mga sakit na ganoon)

In my particular case it started out kalampag then lumala problema that it affected the steering already. I guess in a weird way that made it a blessing in disguise because naging sobrang obvious ang sira and make it hard for the casa to reject your claim.

From what im hearing in some threads specially the HNE thread, e sometimes other casas will dismiss the noise issue as requiring bolt tightening lang or something else.

Take note that iba pa yung issue with Shocks ng accent na talagang maririnig mo sa mga humps.

Hi thank you for the info sir.

Medyo magaling kasi ang tenga ko dyan..on my newly bought Elantra naririnig ko na yung medyo tunog kalampag na di naman naririnig ng passenger ko. Sinabi ko na din yun sa CASA. They just did retightening of bolts, etc. Naririnig ko pa din sya until now. What would be your best suggestion? Thanks sir.

ganyan na ganyan ang problema ng elantra ko, nung bago pa lang nireklamo ko na yung tunog na kalampag sa steering, panay retightening lang ang ginagawa ng casa since 1k pms hanggang last time na pinasok ko sa warranty repair. after 2yrs and 3mos na pabalik-balik for retightening and 2 DTI mediation, tsaka pa lang nila naisipan na papalitan ang rack and pinion ng elantra ko. mukhang sakit talaga ng elantra and accent ang rack and pinion, pero ayaw aminin ng HARI and dealer nila, first time pa lang DAW nila naencounter yung problem sa elantra ko.

Kakagaling ko lang kanina from Hyundai E.Rod para macheck yung kumakalampag sa may steering wheel lalo na on uneven surfaces and rough roads. Tinest drive ng mekaniko and paglabas pa lang namin ng casa, he heard the noise and told me na rack and pinion ang problema. Then when we came back, I had my warranty claim with no questions asked. Sinabi lang sakin na and waiting time is 2-3 weeks for the parts to arrive including the rear shocks that I also wanted to be replaced dahil sobrang lambot. Regarding warranty claims sa Hyundai E.Rod, wala naman ako naging problema sa kanila. Pangalawang beses ko na magclaim ng warranty sa kanila. The first time was when I had my headlights replaced due to moistening.

I have the same problem with my hyundai accent 2012 1.4 AT 15T kms. May parang loose na tunog sa steering wheel when steering it back and fourth specially when the car is standstill and sa lubak tunutunog yung front left side suspension.

Not to mention the "rough idling" now presented by the car even if the A/C is off. I hope when I bring the car to Hyundai Pasig there will be no issues on warranty claims.

Herein are the list of repairs made by Hyundai covered by the warranty on my Accent
    1. Transmission/clutch drag - ECU update 25th Oct 2011 Hyundai Shaw
    2. Tranny gear grinding sound - Gear oil change to fully synth by Hyundai Global
    3. RPM fluctuations - repair performed by Hyundai Shaw
    4. CV joint rattle - TSB recall on the removal of plastic spacer at the CV done by Hyundai CE
    5. Rear spring and shock replacement - Silent recall TSB replacing all rear suspension done by Hyundai CE
    6. Front spring replacement to improved part - Done by Hyundai CE
    7. Re-lube front Spring mount - Done by Hyundai CE
    8. R & P Pre Load adjustment - Done by Hyundai Shaw
    9. Low Power issues - Hyundai CE drained the entire gasoline and replaced it with Shell Nitro+ (problem solved). Since then I stuck it out with the Shell premium nitro+

    Present Problems
    1. rack and pinion rattle - As of this writing, Hyundai Shaw is already processing the approval of the replacement of the steering shaft connecting rod (bushing???). SA informed me that the culprit of the rattle emanated from a certain part that connects the shaft and the pinion. He said the an improved part (a bigger linkage as described by him) was already on transit from the manufacturer.

    2. Throttle problems - to be done by Hyundai Shaw once the steering part to be replaced is already available. Although I already performed some DIY throttle cleaning (courtesy of youtube demos) I still deemed it necessary for Hyundai to check it up. Be careful on the throttle cleaning procedure as this is different from the conventional cable type throttle, be reminded that this is a drive by wire throttle

Being very polite with the Service Advisors and warranty claims officer has its rewards... I never had problems in my claims although Im still keeping my fingers crossed all the time. But the best of all is my Accent still Rocks!! The ever reliable, from the steep climb going to Thunderbird and Baguio, from Subic to as far as Quezon, from the harsh traffic of the Manila suberbs. Bring it on and never stalled. The only epic failure was the battery conked out 4 days after the 2 year battery warranty period expired.... Tsk tsk

oo nga ang daming sakit sa ulo nyan. By the way may rights ba in our laws ang car owner/consumer na ibalik ang car kung ganyang kadaming sira? yung parang sa electronic gadget na pwede ireplace ang unit within 7 days period upon purchased?

Considering that it is on its 3rd year, ok lang sa akin kasi naayos naman at minor lang din, the other 4 items were Technical Service Bulletin Recalls. The Fuel issue is inherent, I really dont mind kasi di naman mahirap maghanap ng Shell gas station sa atin.yun na lang R&P antay ko, the throttle cleaning prob was also minor and I perceived it as a normal maintenance procedure.

Could you pls explain a bit the#8...The R&P pre load adjustment. I had complaints regarding some rattling sounds somewhere in the front part of the suspension so they took out the R&P and added grease in it.

For those more mechanically gifted, is this solution safe? Thanks!

As with any other brand/model, there are always defects. The important thing is if they won't ignore or give excuses. What's good w/ Hyundai, is that after verifying and diagnosis of the symptoms, they would right away give their honest assessment and if neede, replace the part.

Rack and pinion pre load adjustment is ok, however, they need to replace the steering yoke because it is where the rattling sound emanates. Try hyundai shaw at least they already know what the problem is

Mukang tama nga ang sabi ng SA sa akin, there is that thing in the upper steering column problem wc is now being addresed by Hyundai. The rattle is not coming from the pinion but at the point where the pinion meets the column and not the rack that meets the pinion.
