To put things into perspective, a
2.2L CRDI engine (First gen) produces 154hp/343Nm (Euro IV compliant). The 2nd gen 2.2L CRDI VGT produces 212hp/461Nm (Euro V compliant). The 2010 Sorento features this engine although detuned to only produce 200hp because 2010 Santa Fe will also use the same engine albeit at a higher tuning (230hp hopefully).
A first generation 3.0 CRDI EVGT (veracruz) produces 240hp/460Nm though that is a v6 config.
All three engines use BorgWarner turbochargers.
Mind you, these aren't guzzlers. Sobrang tipid nga e so I don't think it's a question of economy. Big cars + weak engines = bad fuel mileage.
i.e. Accent: Small car + ridiculously powerful engine = great fuel mileage.
The "marketing strategies", if they are, will work only to those who are technically inclined, those who actually understand what these figures mean, not those who take things at face value (i.e. if it is popular(/sells a lot) it must be good theory which obviously is a lopsided argument).
