earlier today i passed by a Hyundai booth at an SM mall. i was told that an Accent Sedan diesel version is coming soon.

Sure enough it does appear in the pricelist at Hyundai's webiste

And no, as far as I know, they won't let you do a 10,000 kilometer oil change interval with it.

But seriously, yes. Although some of us were hoping for a cheaper basic diesel sedan (a new Accent taxi), it looks like the prices are going up big time.

The older Accent was priced 700K for the basic, 770K with power windows, IIRC...

This new one already has power windows and better looking interiors, at only 728K. It's already the less expensive sedan, isn't it?

The older accent (used by taxis nowadays) was priced at 690k for the basic and 700k for the power windows model.

Hence, the new diesel sedan in more powerful, has more torque, better looking and the really the cheaper of the two.

There is one on display at Abad Santos. White w/ unpainted door handles, trunk garnish, black steel rims w/cover. They even placed a mock up taxi sign on the roof.

Hyundai has their "own" maintenance requirement.. Its not just a matter of inquiring the cost of a brand new car, you should also be keen for their maintenance requirements.. Or else you would get more problems in the end..

Hyundai "forces" their customers to have an oil change every 3 months or 5000KM eventhough the manual explicitly states that it should be 6 months or 5000KM. I went so far as to email Hyundai about this and when they cited the "harsh condition" text in their manual, I replied with a scan of the page it was on. The page says for any country outside of Europe, interval should be 6 months or 5000KM. As expected, they no longer replied. Basically, I got the "malas mo" treatment.

Btw, Casa will tell you that they are not strict on this but remember, it is not the Casa that approves your warranty claim, it is HARI.

EXTRA FEATURES

The E variant sedan is as bare as can be. While a Spartan four-speaker stereo, central locking, power windows and mirrors, and hydraulic power steering come as standard, there's little else. Not even an adjustable steering column.

Safety equipment is limited to the built-in Isofix points. Airbags and ABS are conspicuously absent. There's no keyless entry, and it's worrisome that the door locks don't pop open if you accidentally shut the doors with the locks engaged.

Despite the large trunk, carrying long cargo is out of the question, as the rear seats don't fold down on this variant.



THE VERDICT

So it's bare. Very bare. But the Accent CRDi is a three-star car with a five-star motor. I suppose you're wondering about the economy. Well, we got 20km/L in mixed driving: 11-12km/L in sweltering city traffic, and nearly 25km/L at 100kph on the highway. At 80kph, we consistently hit 30km/L. Those are similar numbers to the old 1.5 CRDi, from a car that's bigger, heavier and faster.

For hyper-milers like me, this is a dream come true, a hybrid killer that can hit 35km/L with the right techniques. For your typical enthusiast, however, driving like a bat out of hell without paying the price at the pumps is probably reason enough to take the plunge.

I have read on the other post of TS that he disagrees on the maintenance requirement of Toyota.

Kaya i ask him if he knows the maintenance requirement of the car.

On your other concern, Do i need to own a crdi/accent just to know/ask about the maintenance requirement? Just asking lang din.

Btw, i never said that there is a problem with the maintenance of the car. Please re-read my statement.

How about safety features, does it have at least an ABS?

I dont think it has one. Sinita ko rin yan sa SA ng Pasong Tamo branch. Yung 3pt seatbelt at side impact beams ang primary safety nya, basic lang talaga as in pang taxi. Pero kung tutuusin, libo libong kotse wala pa namang abs, ok naman sila.

Balik lang ulit sa dahan dahang pag drive. Defensive ika nga ^^

I would say it depends how many kilometers do you do in a year, if you really use the car a lot then the Accent would be the good choice, but if its just a normal commuter car then the Vios might fit better.
