I also have to include the price of a major tuneup plus labor and taxes. Labor takes up a big chunk of the remainder. So, the out the door price of $2250 for everything is fair. What I get in return is a car I can abuse for another 10 years if I keep it that long.

I think the past reviews are right on with regard to Hyundai suspensions. It's always been the Achilles' Heel of Hyundai cars from the 2000's. Still, I think my suspension would have been fine if I didn't hit a deer a few years ago and didn't exceed the maximum weight capacity when we moved here.

But, the engine and transmission have been superb so far. I honestly think the original 3.3L Lambda V6 in my Sonata is over-engineered for its role in a "grandpa car." The one in my car has 235 hp. But, later versions have been upped to 249 hp and 294 hp. The transmission too is excellent. It hasn't needed any repairs, including this maintenance cycle.

I don't mind paying the repair bill. I bought the car for $19k which was cheaper than some 4-cylinder cars of the time and I got a lot of fun out of it.

I like some of the designs of the Korean made cars, but to tell you honestly what keeps me away from buying Korean made cars is that I am still having second thoughts about its durability. I am glad that this thread was put up. I was at one of the Hyundai showrooms last weekend and I hopped inside the Sta. Fe and I really like it a lot. Another thing is that the preventive maintenance schedule is every 3 months, which I think is very expensive on my part. Do all Hyundai owners here really follow the 3 months PMS religiously? The SA I have spoken with told me the following day that he had spoken with their Service Advisors and 6 months is okay. I would greatly appreciate any info regarding this. TIA

At least here in the US, some used the every 7500 miles (12,000 km) rule, including me.

I followed that rule with mine until we had a very bad winter in 2013-2014. From November 2013 until last week, my 3.3L Sonata had no maintenance done whatsoever. I might have added some engine oil and coolant back in 2014. But, that was it. Then we took it on a 5500 km road trip. That's why every line had to be flushed. My front suspension needed replacement. But, that was probably because I hit a deer back in 2011 which shortened the life of the front suspension.

Now that my car is back on track, I'm following that 7500-mile rule again.

The 3month rule is a scare tactic. The dealership wants you to keep on coming back because they can find fault on your car to repair this and that.

Change your oil every 6,000 miles or 10,000kms or once a year whichever comes first with a group 3 fully synthetic engine oil.

And after the warranty you avoid the dealership like the syphillis

My friend's 2010 Santa Fe 2nd gen keeps on getting weird maintenance notices. Religiously casa maintained, and turns a deaf ear to all our advise to go 'talyer' style. Until lately they've been really big ones...

Last year, it began with the replacement of all 4 wheel rotors, as it got eaten up by the brake pads, the casa told him. True enough, pics he showed us shows the rotors deeply scored by up to 5mm deep, as if it were a metal to metal rubdown. We all told him he might be getting played. "Casa maintained yan, diba?" but he still consented to the repair. Ouch...

Early this year, all engine mounts were replaced. Last month, a warped flywheel. What next?

And my friend still thinks he's still not played like a violin. Bul*&*^!

Hehehe...actually the scare tactic really works, that's the reason why until now I am still very hesitant on getting a Hyundai vehicle. Maintenance cost will not be practical on my part if the 3 month rule must be strictly observed in order not to void the warranty.

I own a Hyundai & the S/A advise is to go by the mileage. In my case 5k top-up with filter change then 10k full o/c with filter change. That is with fully synth CI-4 5w-40.

That's really using the vehicle to the hilt! Sulit!

No bad experience with a Hyundai... Although the maximum mileage I had with such brand is less than 60KKm in 5 years,- and then we sold it....

Still own one,- and very happy with it.... This one is "worse",- only 35KKm in 5 years...

Indeed! I always keep in mind cars are meant to be on the road and found out they seem to last longer that way.

When I had my suspension aligned in Bridgestone, I asked the tech if it will be better t have alignment of new cars checked since I noticed my car had a very, very slight veer to the right. I just thought the stock tires were really bad. He said the dealership of a certain Japanese brand in Alabang bring in all their newly shipped cars to Bridgestone to have suspension alignment, caster & camber checked. Makes sense to have it done when newly purchased since cars are mass produced anyway.

Hyundai Tucson (2007-2012) - the only issue i had was with the code alarm na kailangang palitan ng board (2010).

hyundai Elantra )2011-present) - no major issue so far ... Naka ilang palit lang ng fuse sa 2nd 12v socket

Suki kasi ng problema yung una kong KIa Shame. At malas din yung una kong brand new car na honda city. kaya siguro suwerte na ako sa mga sumunod na oto

Hyundai i10 1.1 AT, brought brand new May 4, 2013. Currently clocking at 71100++ km.

The only major repair done so far is the front-right stablizer link. Replaced through Warranty. Up to now, still running like a charm and no problem with fuel consumption.

Bought my Elantra in 2011. Now running at 60K kms.
    Replaced under warranty:

    1. Rack & pinion
    2. Map light
    3. Steering coupling

No problem so far with the electronics unlike my 1 year younger japanese car where I already had to replace the head unit and the electronic clock is already showing signs of malfunction.
