Yep, you may want to consider other choices like the 7 seater CRV....

So what if a new design comes out? It won't make the older one any worse of a vehicle for its intended purpose. Besides, even in Korea, the Starex is still a strong selling model and there are no immediate plans of replacing it. It is a proven entity already both for private and commercial use.

New models are also subject to 'teething problems'. You wouldn't want to be the guinea pig (Toyota D4d woes ring any bell?).

Yes, they don't include floormats. It defeats the purpose of the plastic 'hospital floor' material they use. Quite practical. Very easy to clean.

    * OTEP, thank you, you have a good point. I agree with you, the Starex is a 'proven' workhorse. I really didn't think of the mats...yeah, what are mats for if you can just sweep the dust off...
    * Eismann, the Explorer is 1.8M if I'm not mistaken...yeah, it is actually a dream car but is way off the company budget...and my conscience will bother me all day with the fuel consumption of that thing...

    Cary,

1.2M hmmmm.....1 R1 and 1 R6 will do! No need to worry about the backride. Let me know if this is an option and i will gladly drive home one from the dealership. No, you cant drive both at the same time. Also, welcome to tsikot and its community. Learned a lot from here.

Hey fireblade! Innova and an R6? Why not? Any suggestions with the budget?

Errh... the 7 seater CRV was phased out a long while back.

*Radical!: Try shopping with other dealers, too... you might be able to get a good deal. But then again, you might not... I forgot how much the CRDi engine adds to the price! Still, since it's company money, you can always bone up some of your personal money for amenities. Seat covers and mats aren't very painful to buy.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Sorry for that Niky.....I was looking at an old CARCHART kasi...thanks for the info. How 'bout a pre-owned Ford Explorer 4X2 XLT? Downside is you have to shell out some cash to go with the 1.2M budget and the 4.0 li engine might be a pain in the wallet at the gas pump if the company doesn't provide gas money. Upside: Excelllent ride for 7 and a major statement on your daily trip to the office.
    Check this out:

    Thanks to all your advice!

I've placed an order for a White Starex GRX CRDi at Hyundai Makati. Should be ready in a couple of days. Here's the deal:

    Sticker price: PHP 1.248M
20K Cash discount (purchased in cash)
    Free Mats
    Free Fire Extinguisher
Free Dark Magic Tint (not 3M by the way)
    Removed front door stickers (free)

    Thanks again guys!

Just pay for the better window tint. Better than scraping off the cheapie tint to put on the new tint afterwards. Para hindi na doble trabaho.

Trust me when I say the free tint is crap. My commander has a 2k3 Starex. Ganda nung tint nung bago (dark din). Ngayon see through na, ang pangit pa ng shade after fading. Kapag nasa traffic ka, ka-eye level mo mga nakasakay sa mga delivery truck at mga mini bus and medyo nakakainis when they seem to be looking into the vehicle (they're probably just being vain) and you know that they can easily see you.

Dati ginawa ko was give up the equally chessy/crappy floormats in exchange for 3M tints. Madali lang naman bumili ng floor mats na maganda. Hassle magpa-retint.

The fire extinguisher is under the driver's seat. Learn how to quickly release and operate it early on just in case the time comes when you actually need it. It's not the most convenient place for the driver but it allows the equipment to be reached by the rear passenger also should the need arise.

Given that the rear windows do not open, investing in a life hammer (designed for shattering automotive glass in emergencies) is a sound idea, too. The Hyundai bus at work comes with a life hammer (or two?) as standard equipment. But that was more of a cost cutting method. Instead of actually putting an emergency exit door, they just put an emergency exit decal on a window and put the life hammer above it (to comply with Korean laws).
