The speedometer on my Starex has been constantly breaking and I have traced this to the speed sensor gear hooked up to the transmission. The speed sensor gear is being eaten up, stripped. I have gone thru my fourth gear (P420 each) for a year now. The installed gear when I got this Starex was a 19 tooth.

Does anyone know the stock size for this model? Some mechanics say 19, I have one shop telling me 20. I have tried an 18 tooth and it stripped much quicker. There are gears from 17 teeth to 20 teeth available, for different models, but no one can tell me for sure which one is right for mine. I am just worried that the previous owner might have just slapped any size on that was available and since the 19 has been constanly stripped I might have the wrong size.

    Thank you for any help!

Well... if 18 is worse, then try 20?

Are you sure it's the size of the gear and not the way the sensor is hooked into the port? Or maybe the metal part it's touching has some wear or rough edges that's eating the plastic teeth?

Just wondering. Ano ang effect ng busted speed sensor sa Starex mo Markus? Aside from the speedometer not moving ( or pumipitik-pitik ba at some speed range like between 40-60 kph?), has it also affected the upshifting and downshifting of your automatic tranny? Thanks.
