Its a monocoque-body from the Sonata. Thats why its lower than the taller PPV-based and ladder-framed Fortuners, Monteros and Mu-Xes.

I'd rather get a CR-V or CX-60

in my opinion,
it is more politically correct to say "controversial" and not outright "ugly".
the former lends some wiggle room into the debate.

So true. That's why it was refreshing when these two reviewers said that most new cars photos look better in real life, except this Sta Fe which is UGLIER in real life.



I think the design won't age well.

this is why people should look at the all new units in the flesh first before pulling the trigger.
A case of Reality didn't live up to expectations.
Most people are thinking it to be a cut price budget Defender/Discovery, heck it even has an outside grab handle on the C/D pillar to be able to climb up and load items in the roof rack.
Its not really that bad but it surely didn't live up to the big expectations it garnered.

So its been 3 months since I got one. Here's my impressions. Its big, longer and wider than my Sorento. Its also gas-only now. Wala na diesel option. I miss the torque but seems to have the same power as my turbodiesel Sorento (they re from the same roots). It has lost of tech, lots of sensors, full 360 cameras, sunroof, leather seats, ambient lighting inside. I'm still trying to get used to the ADAS, the last car I owned with some sort of driving aid was the Mazda2 DJ/DL with a rudimentary backing sensor. I feel the ADAS is too sensitive (or I'm just not used to the steering wheel fighting back when I try being a kamote or the car suddenly auto-braking). Fuel consumption from the 2.5L engine is 8.5km/L mixed driving, 10-11km/L is doable on the highway in Sunday traffic. I'm still trying to find the proper shift point. I got the NA GLS 2WD variant. I got cold feet when they recalled the DCT versions in the US for tranny issues.

And yes it does look like a hearse. Thats why I opted for black.

Its ok for me, what I don't like is the outward bulge of the rear door and the lights being too low IMO. I would have preferred if they raised it back to driver-eye level.

Its already 3 months, I've already gotten used to it. My reports according to my supervisor have this neutral, matter of fact tone. Its very good to drive, steering is light and easy since its electric and just like my Sorento its a monocoque CUV not a ladder-frame SUV. But you know its big and it feels it. Oh and the twist gear lever takes a while to get used to. Annoying din yung hidden wipers during carwashes. Baliktad din yung controls for the wipers: to activate, you pull the lever up. In other cars you push the lever down. Widescreen infoscreen is great.

Regrets? I could have waited for the hybrid, but according to the SA its again in DCT so its ok, but getting it inside our garage is still a pain until now because of its size. Takes me 5-7 mins vs the 3-4 for the Sorento and the 2 mins for the Mazda 2. Also made a booboo, I should have opted for a lighter shade of tint at the front or stuck with a visor strip. The LED headlights are bright but substantially attenuated in the cabin by the full tints. Thinking for having it scraped in a few months.

Oh I thought its recently purchased. As we all know, a car is both a logical and emotioal big-ticket item that we buy. It seems the regrets you have are fairly minor. Good to know!
