*max mejo mahirap I record ung sound coz it doesn't happen during idle. lumalabas lng pag low speed around 30kph.the sound was more of a "taktaktak" sa engine bay. I'm here at hyundai greenhills to have it checked. They mentioned the possibility of updating the ECU. hopefully that would not result to loss of power just like cooper experienced. Btw the youtube you saw in this forum I believe its a normal idle engine sound for accent and its not a knocking sound.

Tnx for the feedback. Hope that Hyundai greenhills find a solution to your issue.

This is good news. Did the service personnel elaborate on what causes the issue on the engine? maybe an invalid/incorrect setting on the ecu?

Then test drive it, so "Voila" it solves that engine knock problem and the acceleration where still the same. So if you have some issues on engine try another Hyundai Service Center, might be they could fixed that problem.

Apparently I'm just mistaken. I thought that the video posting at youtube was already knocking sound and compared that with my engine sound. similar except mas smooth lang yung idling ng unit ko. pero di pala knocking so good

The service personel didnt elaborate anything they just fixed the problem, and test drive it so both parties would be satisfied once the adjustment has been done. I think it would be better to ask for a schedule for your car to be service. In my opinion just try them baka iba kasi yun case nyo, kaysa sa amin.

Engine knock na naexperience ni misis ay yun may thug sound sa car when accelerating and there is a crunch sound (takatak) when shifting the gear to drive or reverse mode.

just got the unit after it was checked up by hyundai greenhills, according to the SA they didn't reset or updated the ECU coz no need for that daw base from the result from the ECU they just "refreshed" it according to him . pero so far wala pa naman ako na rrining na knock even at low speed.

Just curious though, hope our car experts can provide some info on these questions:

    1. If there's really an enging knock issue should it be present most of the time normal speed specially on an idle engine and not only at low speed?
    2. if it's only at low speed could it be more of a gear shifting concern specially with AT transmission where it's controlled by a computer? from what i experienced kse the sound is more of "parang hirap ung makina" at low speed specially if you're "babying" the accelerator but if i'll just normally step on the gas no knock sound at all.

Hope someone could clarify if this is really an engine knock issue or something else. Thanks!

here is a quote from wiki

Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front.

The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise time in the piston's stroke cycle. The peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle. The shock wave creates the characteristic metallic "pinging" sound, and cylinder pressure increases dramatically. Effects of engine knocking range from inconsequential to completely destructive.
In my own perspective, kahit IDLE yong makina, that pinging sound should be heard

Hi guys! This is my first to post here. I have been reading the forums for years now and I must say that this thread is very helpful in my decision on whether to buy an accent or not. Just wanna know from yoiu guys how your dealer handled your complaints.

I have a 3yr old Hyundai and I had a frustating experience with a manager at a Hyundai dealership. I admit that since my vehicle only has a mileage of 10,000km+ that I don't follow their strict maintenance schedule and whatever problems I may encounter, I probably deserve it. The problem was not with engine nor suspension but with the manual window driver side. It broke for the 2nd time in 3 yrs and when I brought it to the dealership they told me that I had to pay to have it fixed. It was no longer covered by the warranty since I did not have my oil replaced every 3 months. What is the connection between my window and the engine? Have you ever heard of a manual window breaking down on 3 yr old vehicle with 10,000km on it? It's just what I have been hearing, "whatever that doesn't break in a japanese car usually does in a korean car". I don't mean to be bias, but if the dealership fixed it, there will be no problem. The is the most important issue here, the window warranty is voided because of non-compliance of service maintenance. Why can't they just admit it that it's a piece of crap and not everbody drives 20,000km a year. Even if you miss just one maintenance shedule, they have grounds to void your warranty.

I spoked to their customer service which I have to say is quite more understanding than the manager and is definitely less arrogant. They promised to talk to the dealership about my problem. I am somewhat appeased by their humble attitude toward the ordinary consumer and motorsist. Thumbs up to them and I will let Mr. Duterte say for me my sentiments to the manager.

It seems this incident made me realize that I am not ready to buy another korean car just yet, not because of the quality but because of the fake warranty advertisements and infuriating service by their dealers.

Legally they can void your warranty even if the part has nothing to do with the engine oil replacement. I know it does not make sense, but legally speaking they can and will decline your warranty claim. Kaya nga once you bolt out sa CASA PMS, be ready to pay up for any problems that might arise...

If you want to claim warranty just check your service record booklet as your basis,

Pinging or knocking sound in the engine is not heard during idling. It only manifest itself when the engine has a considerable load and already warmed up. Even if you rev the engine till redline in neutral the engine still wont knock. In the vernacular the mechanics call this "tope". This usually happens because of improper engine timing in older cars and low octane gas in modern cars. High performance cars usually require higher octane to avoid engine knock. Why this happens to econo cars like our accent still baffles me. I would like to think that the car ingested bad gas but so far only my accent has the knocking problem, low octane or high. All my other cars run perfectly fine and gassing up on the same station.

Really ? of course a knocking sound is different from a clicking sound.
After this Im just wondering if everybody is talking of the same sound, hehehe...

It's confusing because "knock" doesn't sound exactly like "knocking". If you're hearing a knock when you shift, that's engine mounts. If you hear a knock-knock-knock when you turn, that's constant velocity joints. If you hear a tink-tink-tink at idle, that's usually valve clatter.

Engine knock is a ping-ping-ping-ping sound like someone shooting your engine with ball bearings when you're accelerating hard or pulling at (usually) low rpms.
