got that. I am pretty much sold to the fact that I will be spending a truck load of money for a van that will NOT have a rear windshield. Okay na I guess, you win some, you lose some, I just don't like the thought that you'd have to spend 150k to get it.

Anybody know where the best and cheapest genuine leather seat cover place for the GS is?

Mga Bro ma kwento ko lang, expereince ng friend ko who just bought the grand starex Gen 2 just last January 2008. Syempre noong una ok na ok since etong friend ko kase nag wowork abroad and every other month na uwi. Yun lang ang time na nagagamit ang H1 nila. So last March lang they decide to go up Baguio. Noong una pa lang nagrereklamo na ang mga tao sa tollgate kase na gaground daw sila every time nahawak sa H1. So noong una palang sinabi na nila sa Hyundai Alabang ang incident. But since Hyundai alabang ignored it. So umakyat na sila sa Baguio and ganun pa din ang nangyayari everytime nag stop sila sa tollgate. Now they brought the H1 to Hyundai Alabang and they tried to fix it 3 weeks sa kanila without any replace service and ang ginawa lang is naglagay daw ng cable para ma divert ang grounding. Ngayon ang tanong is .. hindi ba dapat factory defect to since 3 month pa lang nagagamit and to think na alis pa ung may ari.

Please let me know what are your experience sa inyong H1. Kase honestly want ko H1 kaso if this is the case mukhang aayaw na lng ako.

    Thanks

^^^ That is weird bro. Nasa-shock (ground) ba kamo ang taong napapahawak sa body ng Grand Starex?

Saan kaya nagbi-build up ang static electricity nito? 'Shocking' at delikado ito....

    1. Why do tollgate people need to touch the H1? diba exchange of money/tickets lang ito??

    2. Yung owner ba mismo na-experience nya ma-shock?

    3. How would HARI make a ground cable when the whole body of the car is the ground (just like any other car)?

Here are answers to your questions:

    1. The static electricity is transferred to the toll booth/parking attendant from the driver of the H1/Grand Starex. Can't confirm yet if the passengers experience this when alighting but it's possible.
    2. I have experienced this at least once. The parking attendant lady was cringing because she was afraid to give me back the change lest she get shocked again.
    3. I find this a bit absurd, so I'm wondering if it works.

My main suspect is the free floor matting. Its fibers are similar to those of carpet tiles (well, not exactly), so rubbing on the matt while driving/shifting gears leads to build-up of static electricity. This goes for both automatic and manual transmission Grand Starexes.

Nobody else who owns a Gen 1-3 Starex has complained of this, at least in this forum or in the Hyundai Auto Club PH forum. Most likely it's because the free matting is vinyl/plastic. So I think it is isolated to the Grand Starex/H1.

I am planning to replace the driver side matting in the near future but still can't find a good fit with the commercially sold mats. The cut is longer and narrower than most other cars/vehicles.

Thanks for the explanation fair enough. But as I know from the story. Even Hyundai Alabang ask to do some procedures. Na bago daw humawak sa tollgate or so what ever is hold the keys first, for a reason to release the static electricity. So they did it pero ganun pa din my ground pa din. Another is if iam not mistaken carpets will only generate static electricity if you bare footed or in socks. But not if youre wearing shoes. I remembered also the reason kung bakit nahawakan ng nasa tollgate ang body was newly tinted ang car nila so they need to open the door para ma abot ang bayad.

And yes even yun driver ang nakukuryente from his own car.

As for how to place a grounding cable? sabi they place it somwehere at the fender side daw (no idea where)

Ano na ang inyong nakukuhang rate of fuel consumption sa inyong GS? I just came back from a trip to Baguio,- 750Km total. Route taken to and from, was Zapote-Alabang Rd> Coastal Road> EDSA>NLEX>SCTEX exit at Luisita>MacArthur's Hiway>Marcos Hiway.... I got 7.85Km/L on our TCI A/T ride.....

Actually, based on my personal experience on this route, the GS's rate of fuel consumption is better by about a Km/L compared to our Gen3, which is also a TCI A/T.

There is a lot of fuel burning going up to Baguio via Marcos Hiway.... Power is also not wanting on the GS, going up to Marcos Hiway....

just a quick inquiry, mga Starex owners.

vehicle is Starex VGT. Normal ba na upon starting sa umaga, may WHITE SMOKE na binubuga but after 3 secs, clear na naman...

sorry for this question, medyo nanibago lang coz in other diesel vehicles, black smoke sya and mas matagal ang buga bago mag-clear.

    thnx

Are the TCI models still available in HARI dealers? I am leaning towards the TCI A/T.

Sir CVT, Why did you get a Gen4 with TCi engine when there is a CRDI-VGT engine available? Isn't the TCi engine underpowered? In terms of Fuel Consumption, which is more economical, the TCi engine or the CRDI-VGT engine? TIA
Sorry for the late response bro, as I was out of circulation for a while.

Please refer to GSTM9's response a few logs after your entry.

My budget and driving requirements point me towards TCi. However, I'd say that the TCi is not underpowered on the GS. I've driven the GS in Bitukang Manok in Atimonan, Quezon, in Kennon Road and Marcos Hiway in Baguio, and in the 4x4 Trail in Bolinao, Pangasinan (accidentally), and I'd say that the engine's performance is not wanting.

I'd even say its response is better than the Gen3's TCi....

Now, if you want more hhmmmpppp, and you have the extra P300K,- then go for the VGT, bro.....

Which of the two do you think has the higher maintenance cost in the long term? Say after 5 years. I am also torn between getting a TCI or a CRDI A/T. I have a Kia Carens CRDI and I would say that the power is really awesome. But I don't really need that kind of pull in a van as I would really be having my family in tow for much of the travel. I am just concerned of the durability between the two engines. For all those who had TCi engines in previous starex models, how long did the engine start to lose the pulling power and fuel efficiency from its initial state?

    TIA.

CVT is correct. The cost of maintaining a higher end engine is usually higher than the basic turbocharged engine (which is the TCi). Let me give a few examples:

    1. CRDi uses 8 liters vs. 7 liters for the TCi every oil change. In reality, the TCi only uses 6 liters but the casa pegs it at 7 liters.
    2. Most labor charges for the CRDi are higher by about 10% vs. the TCi.
    3. The base level TCi has drum brakes for the rear while the CRDi uses disc brakes. Obviously the disc brakes wear out faster, and they cost over P6K at the casa.
    4. The CRDi uses a multi-belt (cost almost P3K) which is replaced every 40K km. vs. 2 timing belts for the TCi (cost about P6K). So they're not far from each other in this department.
    5. If the CRDi unit encounters trouble, then that's a bigtime expense ticket!

I'd say the difference is about 10-15% higher for the CRDi. Not that significant but still probably tens of thousands of pesos over the lifespan of the Grand Starex!

    VGT owner here, 55K kms

maybe its due to the moisture inside the exhaust system, basta puti smoke, water lang yan sir, if nawawala naman ok lang yun,

pag steady white smoke may water leak head gasket papunta combustion chamber yan for older diesel, tapos pag blue smoke oil naman ang may leak sumasama sa combustion, at pag black smoke incomplete combustion isama mo na soot at sulfur content ng diesel na di naman nasusunog

san ba sir location nyo? super malamig ba sa inyo pag umaga?

Same input as fast lane, normal lang iyan. Hindi ako diyan nanibago actually, sa smell ako nawindang kasi before nung inistart ko nasa dulo ng garahe kaya nakulob yung usok.
