The 2006 Sonata might be one of the best mid-size sedans being sold here in the RP at the moment... it only loses on its brand image(big factor in the RP), where Toyota and Honda lead.Originally Posted by Jun aka Pekto
Between the Sonata and Accent, I'm more impressed with the Sonata, which undercuts its closest competitors by about P200K-P300K (value for money).
The sub-compact Accent CRD on the other hand is quite expensive at P748K for its segment even if it has a diesel engine.
may ad si hyundai on the accent. 1.5 CRDi VGT, Pull and shift method and 748K
I quit relying on brand image after seeing a "less than a year old" Nissan Altima 3.5SE V6 (of my wife's friend and fellow Pinay) being towed away because of engine problems....
I liked the much improved build-quality and lower NVH of the 06 Sonata. What surprised me though was the engine. I raced a 5.0 V-8 Mustang GT (late 80's/early 90's?)piloted by a teen and actually won. Granted, I used the automanual. But still..... It's a Hyundai. It's not supposed to be fast..... It's the best $20k I've ever spent so far..... Talk about bang for the buck......
Add: The only car with better bang for the buck performance-wise was my Plymouth Laser RS Turbo which I bought brand new for $14k back in 1991......
I dunno what the heck was going on inside HARI's heads when they priced the Accent CRDi at 748k. My Matrix CRDi costs 678k and yet it is more spacious, durable and has an independent suspension setup that it shares with the Coupe and Tucson.
It's a given that diesel engines w/ turbochargers are more expensive than their gas counterparts so I was expecting the Accent to be priced around the 658k range but 748k? Just get the Getz CRDi at 628k and mod the heck out of it.
Maybe they thought it'd be worth 748k because it's a new model.Originally Posted by Heretic
A little too high for the sub-compact sedan segment. I they should have at least kept it at least under P700K.Originally Posted by Jun aka Pekto

Toyota Vios 1.5G M/T P653K
Honda City 1.5 VTEC M/T P681K
Some of its compact competitors...
Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6J M/T P 708K
Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6 M/T P 698K
Chevrolet Optra 1.6 L M/T P638K
Chevrolet Optra 1.6 LS M/T P710K
it's a twin of the new Kia Rio. even if it has a VGT CRD engine, I still won't buy it. I prefer either the Getz or the Matrix CRDI over it.

It's a bit pricey because of the CRDi engine. But if you choose the gas engines for the Accent, well it equates itself with vios and city.
the 2008 accents are now crdi engines & is claimed to run at 37 kpl. the 6++ variant is the entry model while the 7++ come's with all power & mags. there's no auto tranny variant kaya i loose my appetite for it. it could have been a great answer for the rising cost of fuel.
i think so too. this may very well be a good beater/alternative car to get around the metro. mayrun P600K+ at may P700K+. yun nga lang Manual sya but that also explains na it may reach 30km/liter
in terms of design comparable naman sa vios and yun instrument panel at least nasa harapan mo pa din
i'm thinking of acquiring one
it's probably all highway. but not 37km/liter but 30km/liter. the 37km/liter was claimed by a certain writer in C magazine. tignan nyo yun asterisk sa accent brochure
the Santa Fe can reach 20km/liter all highway. this is proven already in the Santa Fe thread
the Getz CRdi can reach 25km/liter all highway. now why only 25km/liter vs. the Accent's 30km/liter? bec. the Getz is too light and too maneuverable and there's always a tendency to floor the pedal. there was this one time when I raced a new civic and a Bus from Edsa Ortigas flyover to Cubao underpass. hindi sila nanalo sa'kin not bec. I have diesel CRDi but bec. I have Diesel CRDi + compact body. I can squeeze in and out of tight situations compared to them.
Accent body is just about right siguro. you can maintain the shifting of gears and 2k rpm's limit
The most realistic feedback I've gotten is 25 km/l in highway driving. I didn't even attain that with the Getz. If you don't drive in "super saver" mode, you'll most likely get under 20.
After the Getz and the Accent, the next most economical car locally would be the Focus. 20 km/l is possibly on long trips, and it regularly gets 13-16 in traffic. The Santa Fe is also pretty economical, but I don't have firsthand figures for it. The Tucson AT we tested wasn't quite as economical as the Focus.
Amongst gas engines, the Alto, Honda City/Jazz and Toyota Vios/Yaris stand out.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Wow that great FC! So if diesel cost say 50 pesos a liter, cost per km is only 2 pesos! The most realistic feedback I've gotten is 25 km/l in highway driving. I didn't even attain that with the Getz. If you don't drive in "super saver" mode, you'll most likely get under 20.
Now if only ot came with AT.![]()
