vsm712,
It's one of those SUV-hate sites I love to hate so much. Grrrr...
Sierra Club ang isa sa pinakamalaking tinik sa lalamunan ng mga off-roaders sa U.S. They hate everything. They hate the big tires, they hate the ground clearance, I bet they even hate the four wheel drive system. Damn tree huggers.

don't judge too fast...
you can't really judge the real performance of the h2 with just one video clip... maybe it's a lemon, maybe it broke it's tie rod when it went down, maybe... who knows?
bet i betcha that you wouldn't dare take your stock SUV on that trail too. a little more ground clearance would've made the difference...
Base on some of the US citizens who have used H2 for offroad use is not quite contented when compared to the previous model.
Yup, I'm not judging the H2 based on the clip alone. I was just poking humor at THAT specific H2. Not everyone that GM produces.
Btw, the trail looks eerily similar to Hi-Peak. A trail we did last summer using mostly stock vehicles. Teamwork and coordination got us to the top. Great rigs also helped. :D

...i don't judge without basis (scientific or otherwise)....it's written in the books (military books, that is)....the reason why H1 was born....its a humvee or was originally called in the military as HMMWV ("High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle")....all the specs were made for this purpose....
....whereas, the H2 was born due to "marketing" reasons...H1 was "too tough", too expensive and thus occupies a small market share....I'd say most hardcore off-roaders who have H1 never bought them as "civilian Hummers" but rather from military surplus...
....and since it takes eons to produce a tested vechicle....they just fitted an existing SUV with a new body design ..... there's your H2.
...in my opinion POGI lang and H2 pero....bading pa rin.... compared to an H1.
peace.
the hummer h2 is based on the suburban. the current general motor's GMT800 platform used on the chevy suburban has spawned the GMC yukon,GMC denali XL, the shorter chevy tahoe and GMC yukon,GMC denali; the cadillac escalade, cadillac escalade ESV and the hummer h2.these are very capable off-roaders as attested by the 536,000 units sold of these SUV's in the US last year capturing 63% of the 850,000 full-size suv's sold in america yearly (ford expedition, ford excursion, toyota sequoia, toyota land cruiser, lexus lx470,lincoln navigator, land rover range rover, mercedes g-class and the all-new nissan armada all v-8 powered.exception to these is the mitsu montero/pajero with a wimpy v-6 underneath).
Strong sales do not guarantee it will be a good off-roader. Sales figure matter little when you're on the trail. It's how much ground clearance, how much traction and how good a driver you are that matters. Nissan may not be selling 536,000 GU's (it doesn't even sell them in North America) but I bet a locked GU will eat a Suburban or Escalade for lunch. I'm pretty sure it can go where an H2 can go. This despite having a 'wimpy' inline-4 diesel.Originally posted by sikuya

Btw, the Montero with the 'wimpy' V6 is a midsize SUV. Just so happens that Mitsubishi does not have a fullsize truck of their own (hence the upmarket positioning of the Montero).
Btw, welcome to Tsikot.com :D

sir OTEP,
thanks for the info..i'm actually new to 4wd vehicles kaya i'm still trying to learn more. it so happend na naipadala sa akin ang site na yan ng isang friend...i really do appreciate inputs from the guys dito sa tsikot....
regarding H2, i guess kahit ano pa sabihin ng iba...if you have the money and like to have one...just go for it...who cares kung ano sabihin ng iba...ikaw naman gagamit at di sila...and there's always this kind of site to help you on problems you encounter so no need to worry....hehehe..
of course, there's always the possibility that the incident in the video clip was a fluke... but imagine if THAT happened in the middle of nowhere... hehe
i'd bet my Paj can do the exact same thing and remain intact.... wimpy engine and all.....
Have you seen the video yet? Tie rods are the main cause why both of your front tires steer in the same directions. Kung mabunutan, oks lang as long as may dala kang alambre para itali pansamantala.Originally posted by kiper
gaano ba kasakit pag nabunutan ng tie rod?

the hummer h2 is widely known in north america as a serious offroader. it can go to most places where a hummer h1 can thread. the h2 handles serious off-road chores with ho-hum ease, leaving its occupants marveling at the comfort in which they can travel through rough country. at $53,000 and 23L/km of gas consumption, i probably won't buy the beast. but if i'm stuck in the wilds of alaska or the desert of iraq, i'll happily drive a hummer h2 to get me unstuck.
btw, the hummer h3 is going to be realsed soon.
last thought, according to the mitsubishi usa website, the montero is a "full-sized SUV with room for 7 full-sized adults". the montero is a big SUV with full-size proportions per EPA standards. the only thing is, mitsu does not have a v8 engine and otep wass right. that's probably why the montero sells much fewer units monthly than the rest of the gang.it has a 3.8L engine which is the same as its midsize brother the endeavour.
h2....very nice but i wouldnt offroad it if i have one.. but if i have an h1...that's another story...maybe i wont drive on paved roads anymore... sana may mag-import dito sa tsikot ng mga h1 na galing sa gulf. i've seen it in tv na meron h1 enthusiast who gets their hummvee sa gulf since naghigpit na ang pag-import from the states because of the sept 11 attack. ang galing ng pag-rerestore nila.. di nga lang kagaya ng h1 na sold commercially dahil yun instrument panels sa loob are still metal pero pinalitan yata nila ng stainless steel yun mga metal parts sa loob.. ganda grabe!
Owing to GM's stellar reputation for reliability and quality, the Arabs are still not trading in their Land Cruisers and Patrols in favor of the H2. :D The H2 has always been the butt of jokes around the off-roading community both here and abroad. Wretched excess coupled with the tough guy image the marketing guys keep pushing. No wonder rapstars love it. The Land Cruiser, Patrol and Trooper are very capable off-roaders. And they do not have to shout to the world that they are. Yan ang appeal. Sleeper appeal.
The H3 is the softest version yet. They are after more sales on this one. Baka pagdating ng H27, bisikleta na lang yun. hehehehehe.

this review from road and track might help...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Now that the Hummer brand is owned by General Motors, it's only natural to assume the new smaller model, the H2, would be a rebodied Chevy Tahoe. Wrong.
After spending two days rock crawling on the rugged trails around Moab, Utah, I came away with a new respect for the H2, which — unlike just about any other production SUV — conquered several miles of boulders, crevices and steep hills without the least bit of damage. And when the H2 did get high-centered creeping down what I would call a low cliff, it simply slid forward on its tubular steel rocker protection until the front tires hit terra firma and pulled the vehicle the rest of the way down.
Impressive. And proof that GM is adamant about making the H2 act like a proper Hummer. It all begins with huge LT315/70R-17 tires that create the essential ground clearance but don't look overly large beneath the boxy 4-door body. The chassis itself, as expected, is derived from the Tahoe/Suburban's, with chunks lopped off the front and rear to eliminate overhangs and create outstanding approach and departure angles.
Basically, the front of the rugged 2500 Series frame connects via boxed rails to the rear of the 1500, which employs a 5-link live axle with coil springs (air springs are available), stronger 8-lug axles and an electronic locking differential. Completing the H2 chassis are front and rear receiver mounts with winch capability, underbody protection in the form of a large aluminum front skidplate, a center section ladder shield, additional skidplates for the transfer case and fuel tank and the tubular steel rocker protection.
The H2 has full-time all-wheel drive, via a new transfer case that allows the driver to choose between high- and low-range gearing, with locking control over the center and rear differentials. This allows the H2 to scramble up just about any incline, aided by traction control that applies the brakes to a spinning wheel, which through normal differential action sends power to the wheels (or single wheel) getting the best traction."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
btw, i stand slightly corrected - yes, the H2 has more shared internals and dimensions with the Tahoe....however, the Tahoe is itself based on the Suburban chassis.
Just imagine how freaked out you will get when you accidentaly bend the H2's front skidplate. It's so stylized (with "H2" embossed on it), you'd go crazy trying to beat it back to shape. hehehehe.

otep,

They're getting softer.
