I'd get one... just to save gas.

But, I'd NEVER get one here in the Philippines... especially at the early stages. If that battery starts to act up, who are you going to take it to when you're in Imus?? You'll have to get your car towed to Honda Alabang. The auto shops along the Aguinaldo Highway will have no idea at all on how to fix that super high tech hybrid engine of yours.

By the way... the batteries aren 't turning out to be the maintenance nightmare some people thought they would be. It's going on eight years since the first hybrids and no one has replaced a battery... yet.

The hurdle, really, with battery tech is that they're still very very very expensive to produce, requiring some exotic materials. Part of what's keeping hybrid production small and expensive is the fact that battery manufacturers can't produce these batteries any quicker.

In other words, without a revolution in supercapacitors (maybe 5-10 years away) or battery technology (there already was one, thanks to cellphones, but "new" batteries still aren't efficient enough... need more development), hybrids and electrics will not be able to provide more than a small percentage of our transport needs in the future.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    just an idea...

turbo diesel engine + smaller batteries - electric engine

    - don't use batteries to power the wheels, instead use this for other mundane tasks such as powering the a/c, lights, accessories, etc.
    - charge the batteries using the brakes & when the engine is at idle
    - skip the auto engine shutoff of most hybrid systems (since diesel engines don't like this).

with this, you'll come up with a more cost-effective and simpler solution. it might not be as sophisticated as conventional hybrid systems but at least you keep costs to a minimum & just stick to the basics.

Any new technology comes with a price. They are fit only for a king.

Intay na lang after a few more year para ma afford na, kundi ma obsolete.
