gandang gabi! im new here and i find this forum very interesting. this site is cool! apir!

    *topic

i ran into some threads here talking about vtec, i got curious and i tried it out just a few minutes ago, posts here say that when you reach 5,000 + RPM, the vtec will turn on, my car is a honda civic 99 or 98 model, im not sure, i dont know a lot about cars thats why i got curious when i read about the v-technology here. btw, my car has only a mileage of 43,000, hindi kasi ginagamit!

anyways! i tried it out kanina, on a straight road, i dont know if i did it right, ako lang ang sakay, sa first gear, pinaabot ko ng halos 6,000 RPM and i heard sa makina na parang may matinis na "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnggggggg", then pagpalit ko ng 2nd gear, dumadamba sya, tapos pinaabot ko uli ng 6,000 RPM, halos 7,000 na, ganun uli narinig ko uli yung parang matinis na matinis na "iiinnnnngggggg".

sana walang manloko saken kasi im really noob tungkol sa kotse , my question is yun ba yung vtec na sinasabi? kakachange oil ko lang last 3 days, binigay na kasi saken ng dad ko etong car namin, so medyo inaalam ko kung pano dapat na pagaalaga. bukas nga paparepaint ko yung mags. hehe. ill post a picture tomorrow ng makina nya.

nga pala, all stock nga po pala sya.

Huwag mo lang masyadong over rev palagi makina mo para tumagal ang serbisyo sa iyo. Testing lang okay lang.

First, make sure it has vtec sir and what kind of vtec does it have.
Is your car an Lxi or a Vti?... definitely aint the SiR...
If it's an Lxi, dont do it again..

They say VTEC engines love to be revved.

Pero may isang klase ng VTEC, called the VTEC-E, which is actually a VTEC system not made for power but for economy. In short, you dont rev VTEC-E's past 4k rpm to feel the kick, because it wont have any...

I tried maxxing out my d15b vtec once sa SLEX when racing a ******* which has an engine way powerful than mine.. Went to redline at 4th gear to max out the vtec and zoom... almost fuel cut and CEL on na.. I never did it again,.. nakalimutan ko lang nun may 5th gear nga pala ko haha.

Point is, even the VTEC power has its threshold... Just because you have VTEC does it mean you can always rev near (really near or on) redline...

nope, hindi naman po nakakasira ng engine yun. it was built that way kaya okay lang. pero i think, 6K to 7K rpm is too much for a sohc to handle. baka po ma-engine blow ka intead of opening the vtec. the only downside of vtec kicking in is the consumption of gasoline. drive safe!

i just finished reading top gear (forgot what issue it was). I was reading an article something like "50 things you should know about cars", one bullet says... "occasional trips to redline is good." good meaning you will do it in a controlled manner. i believe occasional trips to redline gives the car a workout that it needs. don't over do it though, for me, once a month is good, but that means like max 2 or 3 seconds on redline ah.

yung vtec is variable valve timing. this means kung activate yung vtec, magiiba yung mix ng air and gasoline. it activates via sliding pin. sa PH16 (VTi), alam ko 3.5k activation nito. sa B16A (SiR) naman around 5k RPM. mararamdaman yung sipa nito kasi yung rpm biglang sisipa din.

parang nasa 3.5K rpm nga yung narinig kong "iiiiiiiinnnnggg" sound two nights ago... first time kung marinig yun when i pumped the gas pedal... need ko kasi mag-overtake sa tatlong trucks along SSH... sarap ng feeling... hehehehe! btw, matic tranny Civic '97 VTi yung sa akin (PH16a)... dun ko lang na VTEC.. hehehe! malakas kasi sa gas pagparati.

'though OT: singit ko na lang din... no VTEC-VTEC, my FC.. city driving: 9-10km/L :D

VTEC activation enlighten me
