sir and mam, bago lang ako dito at sa oto, Im planning to buy civic 96 model(with 95K mileage) or 97 model (110k mileage), tingin nyo ok pa ba bumili ng ganto kababang modelo?

and any suggestion what should I check before buying this car, and what are usually the problem with these models?

    Tnx,
    Jetro

Sir, first and foremost if you want to purchase a honda, don't say "ganto kababang modelo", Honda has it's credibility way bay since we were a child. And even as old as a 1993 eg Civic has it's own respect in the auto industry.

Anyways, there's no harm in buying either of the two models you just need to look for the ff:

    1. Oil Leak (Busted Gaskets)
    2. Tampered engine code.
    3. Busted bushing if any (trailer arm, a-arm).
    4. Knocking sounds
    5. Body for rust
    6. Tires for age
    7. Necessities: Brake, Signal, park lights, gauge/s
    9. Oil compression (pag on ang eninge at nakamenor buksan mo ung oil cap sa valve cover if excessive ang talsik palabas, there's something wrong with the engine dapat ksi minimal ang talsik.
    10. If cannot be checked by your own eyes a relaible mechanic can do the assessment.
    11. Aircon
    12. Tranny if smooth shifting
    13. Make sure to test drive the vehicle.
Nashare ko ito because i'm a victim of a beauty of a vehiclem, although i love my civic, i spent near 40k just to restore the engine. Anong civic ba yang mga options mo?

-it's not the look neither the mileage of the vehicle, it's how the current owner love his car-

    Hope it helps.

being an owner of one of them, it's still definitely a good buy provided its previous driver wasn't too abusive of the car.

since a/t iyong target mo bro, double check the quality of the transmission. kadalasan problema din iyan sa older models ng civic (at sa lahat ng pre-owned a/t tranny cars). iba talaga ang wear and tear ng mga a/t tranny. kaya for me, better kung stick shift ang bilhin niyo considering the age & mileage of the car bro

the 1996 1.6 VTEC is the better car than the 1.6 non-VTEC LXi.

standard pricing, i will personally not pay more than 190T for a 1.6 VTEC from 1996-1998. even less pag yung LXi. kahit pa naka neon paint at setup "soundz" yan (mas pangit nga pag ganun eh, asahan mo na nilaspag nung may-ari yun bago nya binenta).

importante jan test drive. dapat walang kalampag, dapat hindi umaangat yung temp meter more than 1/4 nung gauge, dapat malamig ang aircon. at pinaka importante, dapat pino at tahimk ang takbo ng makina, hindi pupugak pugak.

the rest, like kalbo na goma, madali na yun.

Downside?taas presyo ng oem!!!Pero the best!!! sa mga aesthethics and suspension, bushings, etc a replacement branded part will do or surplus (ung mga jdm na surplus)

Hindi porke lady may ari matino na vehicle ah,remember karamihan lalake ang may alam sa engine..seldom lang ang babae na aware sa car maintenance, (no offense to ladies!!) there are other females who just drive and drive w/out knowing what will happen to their car. At nauuto pa minsan ng mga mechanic not like us tropa tropa kng magtanungan gaya dito sa tsikot kuha muna opinion bago action.

    I love tsikot woot woot!!!

That's not a fact. I myself a non-caring lady driver before. We (not everybody, but mostly) used to drive as long as the car is ok, not to offend other lady drivers, but cars used my real men are worth compared to those driven by ladies. No need further explanations.

Sir and mam 96 and 97 civic are still good to buy??
