TOKYO— Toyota and Honda said Tuesday they would recall nearly 20,000 vehicles sold in the United States due to defects in steering and tail lights.
Honda recalled 14,967 of its Element sports utility vehicles in the United States produced between December and April due to a glitch in wiring that could affect the tail lights, company spokeswoman Sachi Ito.
It also recalled 17 of the same model in Canada, she said, adding that no accidents have been reported due to the problem.
Separately, Japan's largest automaker Toyota said it was recalling 4,900 of its 2005 model Avalon sedans produced in the United States from December to February.
The defect in the sedans could cause a loss of control in steering, although there have also been no accidents reported, a Toyota spokeswoman said.
