    Hi everyone,

Just need a bit of advice or experience points...

Took in my new FD Civic for its complimentary 1000km service and additional sensor alarm installed last week prior to taking the misses on our V-Day date. No major issues found but I did end up claiming a warranty replacement for my driver's side window as the motor to push and pull down the power window was faulty - again no major issue.

But at the end before driving my car from the service area, the Service Advisor recommended I should get a over-rust-proofing done to my car daw, not only to maintain the insides parts of the car, the ones that don't get dried during washing but also maintain the moving parts rust-free as well. I said that I already had the under-proofing done prior to the release of my car. The SA said, that this was totally different and the over-proofing will help avoid any rust evolving on the car inside and out.

When I asked for how much it was going to hurt me, the SA said P4k daw!! ..when he said that it felt like he kicked my in the nuts as i just paid P4k for the alarm ...i said let me think it over as its a expensive decision.

So I just want to ask you guys, is it worth it? I mean I'm not planning to hold on to the car past the 3 year mark, but then again I live near the ocean = salty air = major rust factor ..i'm just a little worried it could be a marketing ploy to try and extract some more money out of me...

Has any new Civic owners had it done to theirs? Was it quoted this much?

I guess he's offering a service similar to tuff kote dinol. I haven't heard of it coming from casa. However, if it is like tuff kote and you live where the air is corrossive, by all means, do it.

But before you do, try to ask for more details about it. What chemical do they use? What's the scope of the protection? Which parts is it applied on? Is reapplication necessary after a year or two? Will they be drilling any holes?

One advantage of getting the service from casa is that, unlike tuff kote and other third party services, warranty on the car's body and underchassis are (should be) unaffected.

diba ang rustproofing comes with the package if you are getting a new car? or at least, the car, after it comes from manufacturing, is already rustproofed?

Maybe undercoating is what he meant? You know to make your car bottoms look like charcoal Yes all cars come rustproofed from the factory already so its redundant to rustproof it...

if undercoating, hmmm, mukhang kailangan, pero hwag na sa casa. mas makakamura ka sa iba. in fact, some gas stations offer this.

sir ID and tidus, yes po i already had the undercoating done before picking up my car for release...the nice looking libag look sa ilaliim

pero that's what i had thought nga din, na the cars should be rust-proofed na from the factory, for at least 3 years nga dapat to fall in line with warranty. pero the SA insists talaga i should get it for extra protection. that's why i'll call them up ulit to confirm yung sinabi ni sir oj na tuff cote. if it is well, i might give it extra consideration. being so close to dagat really makes me more worried.

    * oj88

sir oj thank you once again for providing some valuable and key input. second time na to sir you helped me out, appreciate ko po talaga.

    * bro ejay, funny enough it was sir oj88 that pointed me in the right direction in regards to the alarm din po - i picked it from my honda dealer to avoid any issues with warranty etc but let me tell you, its more expensive than the casa that's for sure!

have a look at this thread i created po, to get an idea of the alarm, its exactly the model they gave me kase its the only one that's honda approved daw.

    http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56724

pero bro, it costs a fair bit considering its only impact sensor not motion as well no audible chirp for arm and dis-arm. meaning, the alarm will only sound if someone smashes the window or forces the doors to get in. i asked them to adjust the sensitivity din so that when the tires are kicked the alarm will go off as this is old practice amongst car thieves to check for active alarms.

but just bear in mind, its not like the after-market alarms were already used to. like if your expecting the alarm to go off if someone comes near your car or bumps it slightly (like what the frustrating little kids in my area does ), it won't. also it won't chirp when you activate and de-activate the alarm eventhough it uses the same transmitter as per original.

though in the end its worth the money no matter what, as whether i paid 2k or 4k for the additional alarm to the immobilizer, its a good peace of mind knowing i've done all i can to try and protect my car.

let me know if you have any other questions.

Rust-proofing and undercoating may not mean the same thing.

"Undercoating" is rust-proofing applied underneath the car like wheel wells, suspension, exhaust pipe mounts, etc. The chemical used is almost always colored black.

"Rust-proofing" is the term usually used to describe a more comprehensive method of applying rust-proofing material in areas like the inside of doors, bulkheads, fenders, etc... areas where sometimes they need to drill holes at to inject the rust-proofing material. The chemical used is rubbery and usually has a yellowish hue.

    * snatchmeister - thanks bro. appreciate it. sent you a pm.

about the rust proof and undercoat. honda is offering a rust proof application (aside from the factory rust proof and undercoat). if you are familiar with ziebart rust proof (like a top coat application), its that service. though i know that parang exterior detailing sya. cost 4.5k at the casa.
