Quick question:
What's the minimum required octane for a 2004 Honda City iDSi engine?
Family borrowed this car recently and just kept filling it with 95 (XCS).
Is Xtra Unleaded OK? (93+)?
What do you guys usually use for this car, any fuel economy difference?
Thanks... sorry for creating a thread.

^^^ You can certainly use the 93RON Unleaded on the car, bro.
That is what I use on our (former) 2005 Jazz iDSI ride....

Xtra Unleaded is ok. Cheaper than XCS. I have been using it for my 2006 city vtec.

February 17th, 2011 02:20 PM #493 octane rating should be ok, it is actually high enough for an econo car. Honda City doesn't require a much higher octane rating since it is not a high compression engine (e.g., turbo charged or supercharged engines - Evo X, WRX-STI, MB, BMW, Audi, and other cars with high-end engines). Having said that, a higher octane rating will just waste money for Honda City.
But then again, it will boil down to individual owners. It is the owner's car, taste, and (most especially) money. If the owner thinks a higher octane rating can make the car a super car, then let him/her fill it up with the most expensive fuel available.

based from experience and my own tests between metro's fuels, i got the lowest consumption when loading up Shell Premium. Here's my FC on:
Shell Unleaded / Caltex Silver: 7-8km/L
Caltex Gold: 9-10km/L
Petron XCS: 10-11km/L
Shell Premium: 12-13km/L
These are mostly city driving. Usual route is from Taytay to Makati/QC/Ortigas. I don't care what others say na extra gastos lang. Based from tests yung sakin kaya that's what I believe. I use the full tank method, btw.
My car is Honda City 2006 1.5VTEC AT and medyo harabas din ako magdrive. :P
