TOKYO--Japanese carmaker Honda Motor said Friday it was recalling some 646,000 units of its Fit/Jazz and City cars
sold globally due to defective parts of their window switch.

The recall, which includes 140,000 compact cars in the United States, covers the models sold in Europe, Asia and other regions around the world, a spokeswoman said.

The action came after Honda received several reports of fire breaking out in power-window switches of the models.

The Fit is Honda's best-selling model in Japan, but it has no plan to take action in Japan, the spokeswoman said.

Its rival Toyota Motor is recalling 2.3 million automobiles in the United States due to a faulty accelerator pedal, and the recall action has spread to Europe and China.
