noisy engine - valve clearance or piston ring?

Bale 3 mechanics na nagadjust ng valve clearance sir (including Cruven sa Makati) pero ganun pa din eh. The "clak clak clak" sound still wont go away. Kaya nga, the last one said, its piston ring na daw. Dpat daw ibaba na nga un makina but the cost he estimated was about 10k so medyo nagdalwang isip muna ko. The oil leak was not really much. What really bothers me a lot is the engine noise. Ang ingay tlga lalu na pag start or pag naka on lang makina at d tumatakbo. Somehow, medyo humihina noise when running, but still its no longer as smooth and as quiet like how a honda should sound like. Very irritating and frustrating na ung ingay nya talaga these past few months.

Sorry for the typo error sa mileage, 122,000K plus na natakbo nya. Im still scouting for a better price sa timing belt replacement. Iniisip ko din kasi, pagawa ko na lahat problems (engine noise, timing belt replacement plus medyo matagtag na rin ska medy0 my langitngit sa manibela pag lumiliko sa kaliwa - my last suspension check sa Cruven was January pa ata) sa isang shop na lang sana.

Sa dami ng problems ng car ko, i cant really assess kung ano pinakaurgent na problem nya (engine noise versus timing belt). What do you think sir? which one kaya is the most urgent? and which repair costs less para mas madaling i raise ung amount? Is there a single shop that could fix all these problems considering na mukhang iba iba naman specialty nila judging from the comments and posts dito sa tsikot?

Dapt pag adjust ng valve clearance eh nasa tamang specs... Kung hindi nila alam yung sukat huwag mo pagawa... Ginamitan po ba ng filler guage or feeling guage lang.. hehehe... If i where in your position i'll do a compression test first para malaman kung need talaga pa overhaul...

Goodluck , Sana maayos na problema mo sa makina mo . Tamang step ito na gagawin mo dahil malaking gastos ito .Gusto lang naming makatulong .

is it possibble for you to record the noise and attach it to your post? it would be better than the "tok-tok" or "grrrrrrrr" or "kleng kleng" description.

isabay mo yung timing belt change dun sa engine noise. mas lalaki ang problema mo sa engine mo pag naputulan ka....

or it can be a blessing in disguise (pag naputulan)....hehehehe. that way your engine will get an overhaul and the noise may be corrected.

pero seriously, i think it is with the valve clearance. mali ang ginamit na specs na ginawa nila.

Correct! Kapag naputol ang timing belt, overhaul ang katapat nyan. And you may end up replacing pistons rather than just the piston rings, etc. Have you had the timing belt replaced already? Had the first owner did a timing belt change as far as you know? Normally kasi, this is done every 80,000KM of engine operation.

Suggestion ko Doc, have the major PM done (especially the timing belt change) kung hindi pa nagagawa.

It sounds like you have worn out bearings sa Crank shaft...

Normally naririnig ito when the engine is idling lang... nawawala ito pag hinahataw na.

I suspect that you havent been changing your oil normally... and the oil grade you have been using in the past are inferior quality... or probably marumi na lang talaga oil mo before you had your oil change... then it's already too late... (althought - sometimes - NewOil metal treatment can fix that).

Anyway, kung piston rings ang problema niyan - hindi gaanong maingay yun- kasi - mahihirapan kang paandarin yan since it will have lose compression. Kung stuck up yung Piston rings... (Kaya din mapagalaw ng NewOil yan without opening your engine).

Kung valve tappets naman - since ilang beses na ring na adjust ang clearances... maririnig mo ang ingay nito sa taas ng makina... parang may nag mamakinilya ng mabilis. Typewriter - if you ever heard one... wala na ngayong nag mamakinilya kaya malamang - hindi mo alam yung tunog nito.

Anyway, If madali namang istart - definitely - hindi sa piston ring... kung hindi naman mausok pa... or hindi nag uusok ng puti - hindi sa piston ring. At ang valve seats mo - ayos din.

Timing Belt mo should be changed every 95,000km to be safe. although pede naman kahit lampas pa. Pero, it's a Honda... better change it before. If you dont want your valves to stuck up.

Kung low budget ka talaga... dalhin mo sa akin minsan. PM mo ako, Dito ako sa Manila.

Kung may budget ka naman - dalhin mo sa Prestige Car Care Center - Specialista sa Honda Cars yan... hanaping mo yung May ari - si Durick Pichay.. kibigan ko yun. DUn kumpleto gamit. Papuntang EPZA Rosario pwesto niya, sa may Kawit. Pag galing ka ng Centenial, kakanan ka pa Noveleta, pagkalilko mo... nasa kanan yung Prestige. Thats if you are in Cavite and near Kawit.

Salamat sa mga input nyo. I'm still trying to digest them all slowly so i can come up with the best plan. Nakakaoverwhelm pala ung dami ng mga possible causes. Pero at least, medyo lumilinaw na ung problem. Ill try to save up some more para maisabay ko na ung timing belt dun sa problem sa engine noise. Based on your findings, mukhang malaki laking loan tlga ang katapat nito

Worried talaga ko sa prognosis nung car, baka irreversible na ung damage (specially the piston rings, valves, etc). Sana nga ma treat na cya asap bago pa tuluyang ma comatose ung sasakyan ko.
