    Honda To Introduce Budget Hybrid
By Bertel Schmitt on June 24, 2010

Hybrids are flying off the lots in Japan, with Toyota’s Prius leading the charts for the 12th month in a row. Before, that spot was taken by another hybrid, the Honda Insight. In the Battle of the Hybrids, Honda introduces a fighter that hits below the belt, at the wallet: Honda will launch a hybrid in Japan that will cost around $17,000 in today’s dollars, “making it the most affordable hybrid in Japan,” The Nikkei [sub] says. The Nikkei sees a hybrid price war erupting in Japan.

The so far unnamed Honda hybrid will be based on their Fit, and will share core components with the Insight. It will be priced around $4,500 below Honda’s Insight, and only around $2,200 above the gas-powered Fit.

Toyota’s Prius goes for around $23,000 in Japan. According to the Nikkei, Toyota is “planning to release a new hybrid next year for a comparable price but equipped with better batteries,” and “competition between Japan’s two leading automakers looks likely to intensify.”
That would mean it might cost just over a million pesos if they bring it in... or not.

    Hope they do.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

If it's going to be under P1.2M, it would have a good chance of being a good seller in the local market.

The only hybrid in the local market (not counting grey market imports) is the Toyota Prius with a SRP of over P2M.

But then again at P1.2M I would rather get the petrol only cause to be frank the difference in price is still big and will buy me enough gas for the lifetime of the car.

The same goes for the price difference between buying a Corolla 2.0L vs a Prius 1.8L ...

Or the difference between the gasoline & diesel versions of the same vehicle like the Innova.

But again, I didn't say it would be P1.2M in price. I am just saying a price under that amount would make it a good seller.

If it's under or 1.2M, then it will surely be a hit. Especially to those who cares for the environment. ;)

And yes ... the TOTL jazz is 800k plus already. Add an approx. 400k, you get a hybrid. Not bad, not bad at all.

P400K is a lot of gas and imagine that's TWO ENGINE so sa maintenance paktay din... Duda din ako (like Top Gear) if hybrids are the way to go for environmental friendliness... While it has less emissions and lower gas mileage, imagine yung resources you need to have to make a hybrid car...

Bakit P1.2M ang presyo bigla na pinaguusapan nyo samantalang sabi sa article its around $2,200 more expensive lang? I agree more with the price range of Niky... just over a million lang siguro... IF they bring it in.

Bordering on luxury car prices na ang 1.2M, if that's the case, I guess they'll just be bringing it it for "prestige of being green" purposes... if they price it better, Honda will be helping the environment indirectly since mas maraming potential buyers will consider getting this one.

Meron plans daw ba i-launch sa Thailand yung Jazz Hybrid? Kasi kung Japan lang yan labo yan dumating dito sa Pinas.

exactly kung additional U$2.2k, that's just around Php99,000. so meaning final price ng Jazz eh around Php929,000. i'm all for it...lalo na no-emissions while on traffic (but with A/C siempre).... pero antayin din natin ang panapat daw ng Toyota....may palabas daw na mas mura kesa sa prius and with newer battery pa...

O.T. kung ang Prius ay U$22,000 for the entry model...that's a little over a Php1M lang...asan na ba yung pinasa ni Singson na law dyan excempting importing hybrid cars fm. Tax? ('yan na lang tama nya considering sa kahihiyaan dinulot ng anak nyang congresista na Cocaine user....)tsk tsk tsk....

Why a big jump in our estimated retail price?

    Factor in the following:
    -CBU import costs.
    -import tax.
-retraining the current car technicians be able to service a new car.
-tooling requirements for servicing car-specific models.
    -service/replacement parts inventory costs
    -marketing & advertising
-"premium" pricing image (just because they can)

Next Honda Jazz to go hybrid?
