SPY PHOTOS HERE: Next Generation Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz Diesel
Here are first photos showing a prototype of what will become Honda’s next super mini Jazz. The current model has been on the market since the beginning of 2002 and got just a facelift in 2004. So quite obviously an all new replacement is due.

After the success of the new UK-designed and developed Civic, Honda’s British arm is now playing a major role in the Jazz project. But the big news is that the car will be offered with a Diesel engine for the first time.

This spy shot shows how the five-door will be bigger all-round than at present. Sources in Japan have revealed that the fresh model will use the same basic chassis as its predecessor, retaining the groundbreaking central fuel tank.

The current car’s clever five-seat layout, which sees the folding rear bench hinge down into the floor, is already class-leading, and it’s set to be carried over with only a few minor tweaks. Other upgrades will include a fresh dashboard design and better materials throughout. The existing model’s 1,2 and 1,4 litre petrol engines are likely to be retained, but these will be joined by an efficient small-capacity oil-burner.
The new Jazz is expected to make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October before going on sale in 2008.

Fat chance that the Jazz diesel variant will be released here, IMO.
Then again, if Honda is seriously going against the Hyundai's CRDi Matrix and Getz......

Thanks for the info 1.8XLi. Looks like a butt-lift from the angle of the photo. Larger rear glass. My wish is that Honda brings in their diesel engines for their compact cars as well as Toyota. Bogeyman is right, Bringing in Honda and Toyota's diesel engines could be a wall of defense against the Korean invasion (Hyundai-KIA) back here.

May 31st, 2007 05:29 PM #6IMO Diesel is not needed for the Honda Fit/Jazz kasi it's already fuel-efficient in itself.
The L-series engines are really fuel-saavy in their current form and heck....if one needs more oomph, they can always put the R-series engines as additions (1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 liter variants).
Di na kailangan ng diesel engine ang Fit/Jazz because it is already successful as it is (even without diesel).
Two cents

June 5th, 2007 10:20 PM #7you can never be too fuel efficient these days. A honda diesel will surely add to sales but won't get that big a response as a toyota yaris diesel or suzuki swift diesel or any other cars from honda or toyota.

June 6th, 2007 01:41 AM #9mind that if honda will release a diesel jazz here, it will be a CRDi one, in Honda's terms, a CTDi engine. kung fuel efficient na yung mga petrol engines ng jazz, expect that the CTDi engine will be more fuel efficient, pwede pa siguro umabot ng 17 km/l sa city driving pa lang
