one thing that i would suggest sir aside from a lot of other things that you have to consider when buying a 2nd hand car is to.. step 1) get inside the car and close all windows.step 2) turn on the ignition without turning on the airconditioning.3) rev about 10 times as high yet decent as possible. if you smell a hint of either gas oil or smoke as if from a tail pipe/exhaust pipe, start hesitating on buying that car. it means lumalagok na po ng langis ung car. just a suggestion po among other things to consider.if you are still looking po feel free to contact me at 0923-XXX-XXXX i may have something to offer na 2nd hand car. thanks

I dont agree in third advise. Of course, when you revved up in a stationary mode, smoke will come out.

Just to add base sa personal experience ko when i bought a 2nd hand car last yr.:

    1. After 1 week replaced evaporator dahil may butas di lumalamig.
    2. Replaced tie rods and ball joints dahil iba ang nakakabit imbes na pang corolla pang FX(yung tie rod yata) hehe..
    3. After 2 months yung brake caliper sa front pareho nag stock up
    4. After 4 months overhaul ng radiator dahil bigla nagka leak
    5. After 5 months palit ng tires dahil luma na pala lahat diko napansin nun binili ko dahil naka tire black, and ito pinaka mahal dahil naka 17" yung rim

And so on and so forth and still counting...(yung mga minor repairs) buti na lang big body corolla nabili ko kaya medyo mura yung mga parts.

brand new mas ok...wala ng question don but if you are still planning to get a 2nd hand car make sure you have at least 20k-30K php for repairs... also make sure you have a trusted and a good mechanic. Tendncy kasi even if you get it in a good condition... some parts are already worn out... unti unting lalabas ika nga nila... Im still using a second hand car Honda Esi 94 efi engine which i bought 3 years ago... The only reason I still have the car is because of sentimental value... sometimes you'll feel like quitting because of some problems... sa iba naman parang end of the world na pag nasiraan... but after that you'll feel very happy with your car.. good luck..

btw toyota mas madali maintain... hehehe. parts ng honda mahal but it lasts longer... its up to you

;) goodluck,

First is to check the engine of the car, test drive the vehicle and notice the suspension if it is sound or has "kalampag", if you are not that good in noticing or checking a car then bring along a trusted mechanic to check it out for you. second is check the body and paint of the car, hopefuly your mechanic friend also is a good detector of repaired or damaged panels. Lastly is to check it's registration and papers if they are in order. Good luck with your purchase, the Vti 2000 model is surely a good buy, I have this particular model and very satisfied with it going 9 years na.

i'd rather go for a brand new car for the simple reason that it would be easier to maintain and you'd be the one to maintain it from the start. mahirap kumuha ng maintenance history sa 2nd hand car except if they have a casa record which can easily be obtain sa casa.

If your getting a 2nd hand car, i would go for a corolla altis of the same model since its cheaper to maintain. don't get me wrong, i'm a honda guy. i had 3 generations of civics already. but if this is your 1st time to have a car, go for something practical and easy to maintain. you can't go wrong with a toyota when it comes to that.

if you must really buy a 2nd hand car, my tips are:
    1. bring a credible and trusted mechanic.
    2. visit or test drive a car early in the morning when the engine is cold. you'll e surprised how many engine problems appear in cold starts.
    3. check for oil leaks. most 2nd hand car sellers do have the car's engine washed before posting. but a meticulous eye can spot the slightest leak. check for traces of oil in the valve cover gasket, distributor, and other rubber gaskets visible to the eye. your mechanic will be able to help you with that.
    4. check the condition of the brake rotors. i've seen cars that was advertised with very low milage. when i inspected the rotor, it looked like it travelled the whole country already.
    5. test drive the car. ask that you or the mechanic personally drive the car. check any vibrations on the steering wheel. ask permission to drive through pot holes. pot holes usually give more accurate condition of the suspension than humps.

another thing, your planning to buy a 9 year old car so you must be prepared to shell out for parts and repair due to be replaced for the cars age. i know a lot of people that was very dissatisfied with the 2nd hand cars they've bought since something went wrong after the purchase. i always tell them that it's also possible that it was due to break. it just broke down on them.

good luck and happy hunting. in buying a 2nd hand car, patience is a virtue.
