If your air cleaner filter is a replacement na mumurahin pangit talaga ang filtration at sasakalin nya makina mo. Pa adjust mo rin sa factory specified setting yung valve clearance/tappet mo then pa set mo yung engine timing with timing light according to factory specs.
Make sure that the sparkplug you are using is the exactly the same as what is recommended in the owner's manual (exception to this are the Iridium sparkplugs). Linisan mo rin yung throttle body, IACV, coolant temp sensor, MAF/MAP, TPS

    regards

    FYI lang

Regarding spark plugs: There are equivalents for other brands. Honda usually recommends NGK plugs in its owner's manuals, but there are equivalents for Denso, Champion, Bosch, etc. A quick search of the Internet can give you the equivalent model of plug for these brands, should you prefer them or should NGKs not be available.

    One example:
NGK BKR6E-11 plugs are equivalent to Denso's K20PR-U11 plugs.

The major consideration for spark plugs is correct heat range. Too cold, and it will foul up; too hot, and it will pre-ignite. Neither is good for your engine.

pag po ba maitim na yung air filter and a bit brittle palitin na?
isa din po ba ito sa few reasons why tumatakaw sa gas?

start with this free thingy: TIRE AIR PRESSURES! lagyan ng 31psi lahat.

tapos, check carefully, baka naman lagi ka sa traffic. pag naka-traffic ka lagi you get 0 kms/liter, so baka na coconfuse ka sa pag compute.

next is oil. dont use 20w-50 grade, use 10w-40. if you have a matic car, change the matic tranny fluid. use only honda atf.

next, wag pigain ng husto ang accelerator. try keep engine speeds below 2,000 RPM.

after all those, measure FC again. i'm guessing walang sira makina mo, kasi yung long distance driving fuel consumption mo sounds just about right eh (i used to get 10-12 on my 99 LXi, matic).

mga masters salamat sa info nyo. Actually mga bossing, ang usual na nakasakay lang sa oto is yung wife ko at ako. Most of the time nga e,ako lang. So i would assume na magandang klase ito. Siguro step by step gagawin ko. Pacleaning ko muna throttle and servo then observe ulit kng gaganda ang FC ko. Salamat ulit mga bossing!

i also suggest valve timing and gap clearance adjustment so you cover all the bases.

remember, do the valve adjustments while engine is COLD, not hot.

For info lang bro, 1996 civic lxi is semi fuel injected 1500cc it's not totally efi, and if it's A/T pa medyo malakas talaga sa gas considering also the model is 14 y/o na and if it's M/T medyo mabagal umarangkada ang LXI baka di mo napapasin napapadiin ka sa gas on a low gear, so alaga dapat sa tune up kotse mo and you need to use fully synthetic engine oil na to prolong the life of your engine, better check also your timing belt baka maputulan ka masakit sa bulsa yon bro...keep in touch

For info lang din, the 1996 Civic LXi has an EFI engine ...

Either a car is EFI or not EFI ... there is no such thing as semi-EFI.
