Released in 2010, the CR-Z was slated to be the successor to the crown of the mighty CR-X. However, like others who've taken the green path, Honda chose to outfit the CR-Z with the latest iteration of their proprietary IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) hybrid system. While met with great success in its home market in Japan and some other countries, Honda fanatics clamored for something better than the 122 horsepower and 174 Nm of torque it had. For those who grew up with the likes of the Civic SiR, certainly Honda should've given it a better engine choice, but that's was not to be, at least not yet.
Enter Mugen, a tuning house that develops, manufactures, markets, and sells parts exclusively for Hondas.
To address the demand for more power, Mugen straps on a specially-developed supercharger that boosts the output of the CR-Z to 153 horsepower - an increase of 25% from the standard engine.

alas, much as we might want to rely on our noses, we may not use our noses to do emissions...
