CRV Fuel Nightmare

Hi,

Back in 2004, fuel is just 28 pesos or so. Now it's 48. With the CRV 2004 model (automatic transmission) fuel consumption of 5-6 km/ liter. It is very expensive even to just go to mall across metro manila. For those with the
same predicament. What models and brands do you plan to replace your CRV with? I am thinking about Isuzu Crosswind/Sportivo automatic but I heard its efficiency is only 8km/liter (is it true?). 2km difference is not much even if its diesel. What did you do for this problem if you don't want to get a vios instead? What other SUV with fuel efficiency above 10km/liter?? Thanks.

Sir, matipid po ang Isuzu Crosswind. siguro kapag sobrang traffic, 8Km/L lang yung consumption nya. Pero ang hi way ay umaabot ng 15-17Km/L

Got a 02 Crosswind XUVi A/T. With the stock tires Michelin LTX AT (235x70 R15), I'm getting 10-11km per li. When I changed my tires to Bridgestone Duelet A/T (235x75 R15), my normal consumption dropped to 9-10km/li.
My hiway FC performance is 13-14km/li. When I tried to maintain speed at 80kph at NLEX Southbound (lately lang to), got 18km/li.

Anyway, I'm looking for a CR-V as my wife's daily drive (13km total distance a day)... really wanted CR-V, but am thinking twice, because of some comments about the FC.

Did you account for the larger tire and the difference in your odometer? Otherwise you are probably getting close to what you got before the tire change.

You may want to consider converting to lpg. Around 27 pesos per liter. Same fuel consumption and power but cheap fuel. I saw a 2nd gen CRV that was converted. They hid the tank under the picnic table for stock look.

If you're coming from a CRV and switching to a Crosswind, baka ma-kulture shock ka. Kulang sa refinement yung Crosswind. There are better true SUVs with diesel engines. Try looking at the Chevrolet Captiva, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage or even the MPV Toyota Innova.

Tipid kasi yung Crosswind sa krudo eh. Kung kasya naman sa budget mo, mag Alterra ka nalang. Kumpletong kumpleto. Safety, CRDi engine, low efficiency, entertainment system, 7 seater, luggage space, 4WD pa.

Maganda rin sana yung mga korean SUVs pero hindi sila kasing tipid ng Alterra at Crosswind. At mababa pa ang resale value.

What do you mean by "2nd gen CRV"? What year range is that? Do
you know of company that can convert my 2004 CRV to LPG? Also
have you encountered that has actually done it? I wonder if it
can damage the engine in the long run...

My brother has a gen2 Honda CRV and has been converted to run on LPG. My own daily driven 1999 Corolla 1.6 GLI has been running on LPG since August 2006. The cost of converting is now at a relatively affordable P39K for the SGI-LPG kit.

I thought about that, in fact I saw a Gen2 CR-V for sale that is converted to LGP already... problem is that there are no LPG refilling stations in Cavite, so most of the time I will not be refuelling with LPG. It may be refuelled with LPG only when I go the Manila.

had the same problem as you once upon a time, I used to have an 02 crv which consumed at best 4.5km/liter city driving. what I did was replaced it with an expedition which consumed 3km/liter city driving. I could justify the diminished mileage by the increased safety (priceless) and ride comfort. Then I purchased a honda city for those trips around our traffic ridden city, it gets good mileage. I just used my expy for those long trips or longer than my usual short trips. Truth is, no SUV can match the 10km/liter++ economy of a small sedan. You can get the crosswind but be prepared for a truckish ride and truckish performance. Notable replacements would be the tucson (which has smaller interior space than the crv) or the chevy captiva (untested yet)

I think the newer CRV 2007 has better fuel performance like 10km/liter
compared to the pre-2007 which has only 5-6km/liter. Can anyone confirm this?

According to the casa. This is because the newer CRV 2007 has lighter frame. Does this mean the older CRV (pre-2007) having thicker frame means it is more collision resistant almost built like a tank?

From reports, the new CR-V should do around 8's in the same condition the old one did 6's.

I'd rate them this way, given a set driving condition in metro traffic:
Old CR-V: 4-6
New CR-V: 6-8
Innova D4D: 8-10
Crosswind: 8-10 din - A/T 10-12 - M/T

This is estimated from various trips I have taken in each.

The D4D series is one of the few CRDi series that's almost as frugal as the Crosswind engines.

I have a 2006 CRV, manual, and my FC is 9.2 km/li for city driving. The FC indicator at the panel helped a lot in reminding you to be noderate on the gas pedal.

hope you can help me regarding the CRV 99/00 i am supposed to buy 1 week from now. I am working abroad and someone is selling his crv 99/00 ( manual trans) to me. I haveno issue with its looks kase nakita na ng parents ko yung unit pero yung fuel consumption lang nya. sabi nung owner its consuming 7-9km/ city driving.

I have '06 CRV full option 2.4L now and malakas talaga sa fuel pero im living in middle east so FC is not an issue. Kindly giveme some info's naman mga sir's if its wise to buy now that 99/00 CRV or just buy a compact car like jazz or diesel cars with crdi technology.
